Needing help because I am very confused.

I tried the new WW PP program, which I noticed someone said they do not count calories, just points. It worked for me on the old plan, but not the new. I am going to try and just count calories. I am confused, though. I found out my BMR is 1505. I saw somewhere to multiple that x 1.2 to found out how many calories I need to eat to maintain my current weight. That was 1809. I saw someone say never eat only 1200 calories a day, but someone else said (this is all on another site) to subtract 500 from the 1809 to find out how many calories I should eat a day to lose 1 pound a week. I am confused. How do I figure how many calories I need to lose weight, but not go into starvation mode? I am giving myself until Christmas to get to my goal of 130. Any help most appreciated!
