All in my mind?

I believe that I see myself fatter than I actually am. I am not sure if this is just a girl thing, but this picture shows body fat percentages and then the corrosponding body. Obviously we won't look exactly the same. But I am 26% body fat, and honestly think I look more like the 40% body fat. Does anyone else feel this way as well?

Thanks for posting. I regularly see myself unrealistically in many ways. However, I am 40% body fat and I look similar to the picture (though I'd never be caught dead in a bikini, so that part is inaccurate). Thank you for showing me that I am starting to see myself with realistic eyes!

Another note--when I was in college, I was 14% body fat and I saw myself as 50%. You can see that body image has always been an issue for me. Not anymore! :D

I think you should take into account the height (which we don't know) of those models.

You look perfect to me :)

This website I just found is amazing! You can compare your size to other women!

First, we are all different and look different from others even at the same body % percentages. We should never compare ourselves to others.

Check out the difference between these two ladies both at 15%

And these two guys both at 10%

    10-percent-body-fat-male-pictures1.jpg

Leigh Peele has a bunch of these types of examples.

I'm at 11% and I don't look like either of those girls at 15% (not as muscly as the first and not as soft as the 2nd - soft is not a bad thing, they both look HOT in their own way)

Also, we girls tend to be hard on ourselves, especially when bloated with water and food. I constantly feel that my tummy is fat, and it tends to be slightly thick because I'm short. It wasn't until I recently had my DXA scan that showed my torso is at 0% body fat and all of my fat is stored in my upper legs and upper body that I finally let go of this. I have to constantly remind myself that it's my internal organs and water storage that is left and let it go, but I think it's a girl thing to think you are fat. I always thought I'd be happy (and I am happy now!!) if I was even at a higher % than I am now, like size 8 which is the smallest I'd ever been in my life, and now I'm size 2-4 and I feel fat???!!! Huh?? It's a girl thing we constantly have to fight. It is totally illogical. I am happy, but I still fight this thought, which is strange.

A lot of how you look at a certain BF% has to do with whether you're well muscled or just thin. A woman can be 15% BF and look flabby or 25% and look ripped. Another good reason to hit the weights!
