Tragedy 35 years ago today

The airplane carrying the band Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed near Gillsburg, MS. en route to an engagement in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.The names of those killed and injured in the crash:

Dead:
Ronnie Van Zant, Lead Singer
Steve Gaines, Guitarist
Cassie Gaines, Vocalist (Gaines’ sister)
Dean Kilpatrick, Assistant Road Manager
Walter Wiley McCreary, Pilot
Willian John Gray, Co-pilot

Injured:
Gary Rossington, Guitarist
Leon Wilkeson, Bass Guitarist
Allen Collins, Guitarist
Billy Powell, Pianist
Leslie Ann Hawkins, Vocalist
Artimus Pyle, Drummer
Keven Elson, Sound engineer
Ron Eckerman, Road Manager
Bill Sykes, member of a television crew

Since then, Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson, and Billy Powell have also passed on. Only Gary Rossington remains as one of the founding members.

Saw them at the Memphis Liberty Bowl stadium July 1974; with Clapton and Foghat.

    i was a just little when it happened , but they were a huge part of my growing up. i still love them. never saw them in concert. but every time sweet home Alabama or free bird came on, my friends and i would get up and dance an sing. simple man is my favorites.

    Yep, I remember that. I was almost 18, and they were one of my favorite bands.
    I think my favorite song of theirs is "Tuesday's Gone."

    Simple Man is one of my favs. My friend does an awesome version. She played it at our wedding for the mother/son dance.
    This was before my time though.

    i have to be honest...i was more upset about hearing Melanie Thorton, singer for La Bouche, dying in a plane crash in 2001. Her eurodance tracks in the mid 90's ruled.
