Bananas are very high and sugar. They are healthy in the sense that they have more nutrients and vitamins then say a piece of cake. However they still have a high sugar count. Sugar is sugar in the end. So try to stick to small amounts of fruit. Or fruit that is low in sugar, like berries.0
-
i guess they are!! lol... i wont be packing those anymore, at least not when i plan on eating other fruit!0
-
Bananas are higher in sugar than most other fruits, but they are very beneficial for peri-workout nutrition. I freeze mine, then blend half a banana in a protein shake. They make the shake taste better, and also provide a good source of glucose for getting the protein to my muscles after a workout.0

Don't give up bananas, they are potassium and vitamin rich handy sugar boosters. And definitely better than cake lol. Don't worry about your sugar being a little high if you have had two pieces of fruit. Have you ever heard of the obese person who got that way from eating, well, just too many bananas!0
-
Don't worry about it unless you've a medical reason to restrict sugar. If seeing red numbers bother you just set your sugar to a higher number or remove it from your diary stats.0
-
the problem is i am def considered obese lol, (not that its a joke)...
but id rather see ALL my levels stay in the green i guess, and its just frustrating that eating healthy has already put one level in the red0 -
and no medical reasons to restrict sugar...only cholesterol.... surprisingly my blood sugar levels are good!!0

You can change your macros. I am currently eating more protein than MFP recommends. I changed it in my settings to 40% of my calories. You can also have it do the same with sugars, and up it to a more reasonable number for eating fruit.0 -

but wouldnt changing what it says i should take in screw everything up??? i feel like its set to that for a reason, or am i mistaken?0 -
any sugar from fruit, yogurt or milk i ignore. not saying its right. just saying its what i do0
-
ps how do you change your macros?0
-
MFP is not the authority on macros, or even calories. It's a guide, a very rough one at that. I use it for tracking, but I get my goals and other data elsewhere. Places where you can input things more accurately.
Chaging macros is as easy as Goals>Change Goals>Custom.0 -
Oh and MFP sets both proteins and sugar ridiculously low.0
-
ps how do you change your macros?
right!! lol...ive been lookin on here as to how to change that and i cant figure it out... i took a look and i usually stay within my limits on sugar...usually!! ...but if changing it to a higher number wont screw everything up i would def like to0 -
I thought fruit had natural occurring sugars0

Like I said.Goals>Change Goals>Custom.0

what would you suggest is a good level of sugar and protein???0 -
Depends on your body and your goals. I'm by no means an authority on this stuff... I set my sugar to 75 so I hardly ever go over. It's a personal thing. I put my protein at 25% minimum because I want to be eating at least 1 gram of protein for each 1 pound of lean mass I have. It's entirely relative to YOU, and your stuff will differ from mine0

Most places I've read have recommended: no more than 2 to 3 servings of fruit per day. What did you get with a banana, and an apple? I would go slightly higher than that for your sugar goal.
For protein, I believe you have to set it up as a percentage. I have mine set at 40% protein 40% carb, and 20% fats. Most people recommend 1.2 to 1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of lean mass. Most bodybuilders recommend 1 gram per lb of lean mass. Find out what works for you. I wouldn't go any less than 30% for protein, though.0 -

it actually put me at 26g !!! from 2 servings of fruit...i changed it so that i could be allowed 39g...mostly because i love fruit....or is that too high now?0 -
im sorry...i have it set as 35g0

I think MFP sets the sugar limit as the recommended amount for added sugar, but then counts all sugars. Since carbohydrates are just sugar+fiber, I would track carbs and fiber. If carbs are under and fiber is good, then don't worry about sugar. Also, don't worry about being over for protein. This is why the red numbers drive me batty.0

I thought i was being realy healthy eating lots of fruit but now i am confused that I am eating to much sugar also Is true you should not eat fruit after 7pm0

MFP sets mine at 50. (Probably due to calories, and I think it goes up when I exercise.)
As long as you are getting most of your sugars from fruits, you should be fine.0 -

As long as you're not diabetic, or insulin sensitive, sugar from fruit shouldn't affect your weight loss. I've heard recommendations, to avoid carbs before bed, since you don't need the energy to sleep, but I haven't noticed any adverse affects from eating them.
I think it all depends on your body type. If you are not losing from eating less calories than you use, you may need to tweak some things, like carb cycling. If you are losing like you are supposed to, I wouldn't worry about it.0 -
Why do you care what your sugar levels are? Unless your going over your calories with sugar it shouldn't matter.0
-
The recommended limits for sugar are for added sugar, do not worry about sugar from fruit. Either delete the column or set it higher.0

Glad you posted this. I was just wondering about this same topic this morning. Make more sense now!0
