American Eggs!

Just pure curiosity.... I have noticed on here and from looking at people's diaries a large egg in the US appears to be 70 calories. This seems a generally accepted number. In the UK, a large egg is 103 calories!! Are British eggs bigger than American eggs?! I feel cheated! Does anyone know why this difference?!

There must be differences in size classification as I cannot fathom how a US egg can differ in nutritional content than a British one! We have extra large here also, but one of those bad boys will cost you about 120 calories! Is weird

My wife is british and says a large egg in the UK is larger, so yes, it's the standard.

A U.S. large egg package says it is 50g. When I weigh a whole egg (with shell) is is between 55-60g. 70 calories.
  • I recall reading an article not so long ago about how many foods (as in raw vegies and fruits) (in the USA) have fewer nutrients than they did just 2 decades ago. Maybe that applies to eggs too. Could be what chickens are fed results in differing amounts of nutrients in the egg.
