So I don't have a thyroid anymore

Recently been through a few surgeries, cancer and all(everything's cool now, don't worry), and end result is that I don't have a thyroid anymore.

I hear you really need to watch what you eat post thyroidectomy, real easy to put weight on and all. I'm sure there's at least a few of you out there been through the same thing. Is there anything I should be avoiding? Any foods to try to gravitate towards. Made a lot of progress already, would hate to lose it. Any points in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Just take your hormone replacement and be reasonable.

I haven't had a Thyroid gland for nearly 10yrs now . . . never had a problem losing weight when I've put my mind to it . .

I still have blood tests every 3 months to check my levels . . .

You must be careful with carbs! Eat lots of protein and vegetables with some good fat.

My husband had thyroid cancer and had his thyroid removed 2 years ago. Once he reached the correct levels of medication (took almost a year), he no longer had issues. His biggest complaint was the low-iodine diet before RAI treatment.
  • Once you get the synthroid replacement hormone at the right level you're the same as everyone else. Make smart decisions about food and exercise.

Same here. On meds for probably 13 years. Then surgery. Found cancer we didn't know I had. All is good. 5 years later I go to oncologist every 6 months. No issues. PCP doctor has me on good level of synthyroid.

Everyone is different, but for me it did not affect weight issues
