Hi all,

This is going to sound ridiculous but I Suffer with vertigo and am seriously petrified of escalators. I went sight seeing on mu own today and had to ask 4 strangers to help me down some that wernt working. There was noone around at the metro centre and braved it, as soon as i got on my legs turned to jelly, i started swaying and i grabbed on with both hands and burst into tears.

Tomorrow through Wednesday I am going to have to get off a DuPont Circle and I've just googled it and wouldn't you know it, it's escalator is almost a mile long, there was a YouTube video. I was in tears of fear just watching the video knowing I'm going to have to face it tomorrow. I've read there are elevators but I can't locate them on street view. Does anyone know where the one is to go to sandy grove?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Gemma

There are elevators on the platform at every station. Ask a metro employee and they'll direct you. If you are at the street level, the elevators are often directly opposite the escalators that go down into the stations... hope that helps.

ALL the metros have elevators, use 'em.

seriously, do not go near them. they will send you into a frenzy.

and stop looking at pics. There is one at sandy grove... you just have to look for the elevator signs. **all of the stops are required by law to have elevators operating by law, so they do have them. It's just finding them that can be difficult.

Dupont is fun, have a blast!!

    **but no, seriously. Don't look.

I'm the only one I know that hasn't freaked upon seeing them. Even my grown @ssed male friends who don't have height or vertigo problems freak out over them. They are def. a doozie!

Have you thought about having your ear's checked? My brother started having vertigo, and it turned out he has Menier's Disease. Not sure if I spelled that correctly.
And, in the winter, I get vertigo, when I get an ear infection, or really bad allergies.-it is horrible- I cannot even sit up without vomiting. It usually takes up to a week in bed before I recover.
It has to do with an imbalance of the calcium crystal's in your inner ears.
Maybe you can have it checked out?

Good luck and enjoy your trip.:flowerforyou:

I have got labynthistis a few times over the years and it usually flares up when I've been on a flight. I flew out to DC on Saturday (8 hours) so I could be beggining to have a flare up but the room isn't spinning when I'm sat still it's literally just heights. My legs try to buckle underneath me and my balance totally goes.

Your right though maybe I should go to the doctors as being in this much fear over a escalator is ridiculous
