Am I doing this right?

I read this blog, something abut....road map I think it was by a something Dan, Helloitsdan? Anyways, i read about figuring out what your TDEE is and making a deficit from that and so forth, so that's what i did.

i found out that my tdee was about 2000 calouries, since i'm genereallly sedentury, except my exercise. i used to only exercise two days a week but now it's up to three. based on other posts i've seen around here, my exericse is 30 minutes of weight lifting and 45 - 65 minutes of walking, 3 days a week. so to eat a deficit from my tdee, i'm going to eat about 1600 - 1700 calories. i'm 146 and 5'3" 1/2 and 19 (almost 20) years old.

does this sound write?

Did you take the TDEE from mfp or another site?

If you used mfps inbuilt TDEE calculator you can also eat back your exercise calories

If you used another site the exercise calories are built in and you should not log exercise in the cardio section..

Apart from that clarification, yeah you're doing it right

Another site. MFP has me at 1200 - 1300 (i don't remmember exactly how much) and after i log my exersise it's about 1600 - 1700 calouries.

I think I read this 5 times before it sunk in and it didn't really click until I had been actively doing it for 2 weeks. You include the exercise you do into the TDEE, so no more saying you are sedentary! You don't log exercises daily any longer either. I think 1600 is your sedentary numbers but if you work out 3 times a week you are moderately active.

ETA: Sorry, looking at the wrong numbers. Your BMR is @ 1502 and you could really maintain at anywhere from 2000 to 2300 depending on activity so you could eat between 1600 to 1800 depending on if you call yourself lightly or moderately active. The best way to see if it works is to give it a few weeks!
  • 3 - 5 is moderate, 1 -3 is light, so if the OP doesn't do anything else outside of exercise that's really "active" I think lightly active works well.

Besides, if she eats about 1700 - that's right in between the calories she would need were she "lightly" and "moderately" active. I already know how many calories she needs based on activity level since we practically share the same stats.

The maths works out the same as it happens
tdee - 20% from the other site and
    MFPs goal + exercise
    come to around 1600-1700
    Go for it.
    :)
