New exerciser with knee discomfort

I'm changing my couch potato lifestyle. I've been doing the Leslie Sansone DVDs 3-4 times a week for the past month (2-3 miles at a time), and I'm actually enjoying them. I don't think I've ever enjoyed exercise before in my life! They work for me because I can do them at home first thing in the morning. The only problem is that I have experienced some minor knee pain over the past couple of mornings.
I'm not prone to joint trouble, but I don't want to mess with things. I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor to get a referral to physio, but in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions of knee strengthening exercises that I can do? I really don't want to have to take time off from the DVDs, but I don't want to hurt myself either.
