I currently have the Polar F6. My battery is about to die and the chest strap is bad. I was looking into getting another Polar f6 but its hard to find. Can you suggest a newer HRM that works well. I was looking also into the Polar FT7?!?!

I have the FT7 and I really like it. I'm not sure what you're looking for but the chest strap is comfortable, it's easy to use, and the calorie burn seems pretty accurate. I'd recommend it!

Sorry, I know I'm barging in on your thread here, MyPsalm63, but....
I'm looking at getting a heart rate monitor. I don't want to spend a great deal but just wondering what I should be considering when looking at them.

Well, I would just have the battery changed, maybe get a new strap- they come in different sizes and at least two different styles (or at least they did not sure if Polar changes this up a bit from time to time)

I have the Polar F11 (an old model, not sure if it is made anymore) and a Garmin 610 (x?)

the Polar is great for heart zone training etc the garmin is great for gps but the hrm seems a bit wonky
While the garmin claims to base calorie burn as from your first heart beat detected and has an indoor setting, I find that when I exercise indoors it often claims that I have only burned 39 calories even when I have soaked my shirt in sweat

However, the Garmin works great outdoors- so in spite of what it claims, I really think the calories burned report are a reflection on the distance traveled since it is first and foremost a GPS- I love the GPS function as it is very helpful on unfamiliar trails and even int he woods usually finds a satellite quite quickly

the polar is much better as a heart rate monitor and for indoor training though I think it may slightly overestimate my calories (I take off 10% to be on the safe side) another plus side of the polar is that I can wear it in the pool (I have a strap dedicated to this alone just in case water were to get in) and it picks up my heart rate in the pool too

my Garmin can go in the pool but it doesn't pick up my heart rate
