whats your goal weight? ive never been thin so i dont know what a good weight is to aim for a 5'8 girl (just saying cause obviously mfp asks for your goal weight) my goal weight as of yet is 126lbs ... do you think thats too low for someone of my height?
I'm aiming for a UK size 10 which is a US size 6 i know that weight distribution changes what weight you need to be to be a set size but if i could get a rough idea that would be great
Thanks
EDIT: I HAVE CHANGED MY GOAL WEIGHT! ive changed it to 164lbs now! Just because thats considered as a "healthy BMI" for someone of 5'8 i will change my goal once i get to 164lbs thanks for the help everyone:)

I'm 5'7" and a large build, and my goal is to be in the 150's. I'm 172 now (down from 219), and I think my goal is appropriate. Right now I'm a size 12 (US), and I'll probably be an 8/10 around 150.
Edited to add: Yes. I think 126 is a really low goal for you. That doesn't seem like it would be in the healthy BMI range. Maybe at the very bottom. 160 counts as a healthy BMI for someone 5'8".0 -
ah i seeee so id probably have to go lower than 150 then to reach my UK size 10/US size 6 goal then0

ive checked and 126lbs is still in the healthy BMI rage for a woman of 5'8 i would definitely not even have that as an option if it was underweight dont worry!0 -
I am 5'9" and my goal is the 150 range. 126 sounds really low, even if it is considered in the healthy range.0
-
5'8" - 5'9"
I LOVED how I looked at 150...now trying to get back there after I gained the weight back this last year. New goal is 145 and STRONG0 -
I'm about 5'71/2", close enough?!
I started at 204 lbs
Current weight 154 lbs
Goal weight 145 lbs
I have an average build but I'm also in my late 40's so I don't know if that makes a difference
Best of luck to you!0 -
I like your profile picture.
I'm 5'9" and wore a (1980s) UK 10 at 58-60 kg. I think sizes were smaller back then. I was 34-25-34 at that weight.0 -
I am 5'8 and I am currently at 140 and a US size 8. I have been as low as 130 and that is where I look my best so that is what my goal is. So, I think the 126 is attainable if you desire it. I hope that helps!0

really? do you guys think so? just so you all know this isnt based on anything i just guessed a weight its subjected to change im more aiming for a clothing size than a weight cause every girl ive ever seen thats a UK size 10 looks nice and slim but not TOO THIN and look a standard normal size so thats why im aiming for that really0
-
150-155 with 17-19% body fat. Smallest I've been as an adult is 135, and I was very thin at that size.0
-
I'm 5'7" and am currently at goal of 145 lbs., I wear size 5. Yes, I think the goal weight you are going for is way too low for someone as tall as you.0
-
well since you guys think 126lbs is too low what do you guys think would be a good weight for a 5'8 girl aiming for a UK 10/US 6 ?0

I'm 5'8' and I have based my goal on my age and my height. I am 35 now and would never want to be under 150. I have set my short term goal at 163, just enough to get me to a 'healthy' BMI and out of the "overweight" range. once I see how I look, I will go from there. I currently weigh 180 and I wear a US size 12; some 10s on a good day. I want to be a consistent size 8.0
-
I'm 5'8, my starting weight was well over 400 lbs., my current weight is 312 lbs., and my ultimate goal weight is 150 lbs.0
-
150-160, but I have a large frame0

I'm 5' 8" an currently weigh 142lb. I am a UK size 10/12 depending on the shop. My goal is just to get below 140, I have been there but couldn't sustain it. Now I do more strength training and am thinking that I need to focus less on the scales and more on body fat %. I think that, depending on build, of course, 126 sounds really low. I know I'd look ill at that weight. Why not set a higher goal and then take it from there?0
-
I'm 5' 8" and aiming for an initial goal of 11 stone 7lbs which is comfortably inside healthy BMI and an off-the-shelf-in-any-shop-don't-need-to-try-it-on UK size 14. If and when I ever get there I may reassess.0
-
I have always had an athletic build so my goal weigtht was 140. I never thought I could get beneath that but I have! I guess now just ultimate fitness is my goal lol
Oh yea, I'm also a US size 4 currently <<edited for size.0 -
I'm 5'8 I'm currently 157. I'll be happy at 140 but 135 is my ultimate goal.0
-
I am 5'8" and 135 (was at 150.5). Hit my goal already. I also have a medium frame and am in a size 4 (in pants). I'm not aiming to lose anymore, just stay fit/look toned and get stronger! I think that 126 is low, but not sure of you have a smaller frame or not.
Good luck!0 -
I would be very pleased to weigh 155 but I'll take 165!!!!0

really?! i cant tell you how happy that makes me! but yeah i know well ive never been thin so 126 was an estimation on what i guessed i would have to be to get into a UK 10 not a realstic goal so dont worry! but 140 may be my new goal now:) which is great cause it means i have alot less to lose :P haha well size you are a 10/12 do you think 130 would be good to be an all around UK 10?0 -
I'm 5'8" and my goal is 137 lb. That's only 8 lbs away and I feel like I still have a long way to go so might change it if and when I hit my goal. My goal is not to have fat thighs, whatever weight that happens at.0

You can always set a goal a little higher and then re-evaluate from there. Just see how you feel and if you're where you want to be.0 -
The best bet is for you to calculate your body fat % and then set a goal weight from there. You can find online calculators, use a handheld device to measure bf%, you can see if your gym has calipers or check with your local hospital or university offers free or inexpensive bf testing.
I'm 5'8, weigh 176 and just started wearing 10s. My goal is 165. I have LBM (lean body mass) of about 128 pounds, so if I weighed 125 I would be dead or severely malnourished and have lost a considerable amount of muscle mass. So it is different for everyone. I am at an "acceptable" body fat %, but I'm still considered overweight and have an overweight BMI, according to the charts. This said, I don't want anyone to think that "I'm big boned" or "large frame" is a reason for any woman to give for being severely overweight and unhealthy! The main thing is to know YOUR body and what is healthy for you. I'm quiet muscular, so I don't fit into the typical mold for a 5'8 woman, but I'm a healthy ME.
You can't go on weight and BMI alone as there are many other variables. Of course, this image below is an extreme illustration, just to make a point. But look at my numbers compared to some of the other responses on here or the ones you will get.

I am 5'8.5" and weigh 172 and am 66 years old. I want to get down to 145 because it is a healthier weight for my height, build and age. I started at 189 so am happy to be on my way there. You all inspire me and I thank you.0

i totally hear you! and you make a really good point i dont know im just looking for a general answer i guess which is what i seem to of got unfortunately i cant go for a gym membership but ill look into online calculators:D0 -
I am 5'8" - 5'9" (medium frame) and I currently weigh 149 lbs, and I am NOT a true size 6 (only in the very generously sized stores, and even then generally an 8). My GW is 130, although if I'm toned at 135 I'll be happy with that too. I have a small waist but carry all my weight in chubby thighs and hips and squishy arms, so that's where I'll be losing it from. Despite some posts on here, I don't think 150 is a "stopping point" at all (obviously taking into consideration frame size, health, and body composition).
If you are early 20s like me, I think 130 is a solid target... I got this goal after consultation with my doctor and a personal trainer (but again, that's what's right for ME). Still, 126 seems a tad low.0 -
Ive changed my goal weight to 130 now just a generalisation from whats been said and the sorta lowest most people would aim for obviously if i get to my desired size before 130 then im going to stop! but still thank you for all your help everyone :flowerforyou:0

Weight is arbitrary and varies wildly depending on body composition. I am a US size 6 and I weigh 165 lbs at 5'8. I also have relatively low body fat % and don't carry much weight in my lower body.
If you have a size goal, then shoot for that size and don't worry about what weight you are. Unfortunately, you won't really be able to get an idea of how much you should weigh by asking women of the same height. There's too much variance. Pick one goal, not two. Either size or weight.
(That said, depending on your body shape a UK size 10 may not be realistic, especially if you have wide hips. If that's the case, don't think of it as a bad thing. You can look fit no matter what your body type is, it might just not be at the size you think it will be.)0
