    Oh yeah, cool little info about calorie burn per pace and lbs you might say.

    People's difference in HR% to HRmax only indicates their personal fitness.
    High HR is poor fitness and higher carb's burned.
    Low HR is better fitness and higher fat burned.

    So if 2 people both had the same weight, same pace and stride efficiency, and same HRmax.
    Runner 1 had HR at 170.
    Runner 2 had HR at 140.

    A HRM without VO2max stat would say Runner 2 burned much fewer calories than Runner 1. But that's not the case at all.
    Same calorie burn.
    Runner 1 may have had 4 cups of coffee prior to the run because he heard it maximizes fat usage (probably a short run!).
    Runner 2 may have done a lot of training in lower aerobic zones and so burns fat much easier and better aerobic development.
    Runner 1 may have always done intervals and no low HR training, and is still burning carbs as body is used to that.

    I'm 6'2" and weight 210. I burn about 150 - 170 per mile at a 9 mph pace. More if it's warmer, less when it's cooler. Including some warm up work and cool-down I can burn upwards of 1,000 calories for a 5 mile workout.

    My heart rate typically stays under 170 but this morning I did 2.5 miles at a 8:42 pace and that put me up over 170 most of the time.

    I only burn about 300 cal for 60 mnutes when running at a running a 5-6mph pace.

    i know this is EXTREMELY low and i have no idea why. I do run for 30-60 minutes daily as well as cross training, yoga and a BIG run (about 1.5hrs) on the weekend so i know i'm very fit...

    Is this why my calorie burn is so low? i find it hard to get my heart rate up?

    I obviously am not going to use anybody else's numbers. We're all different. I was just asking out of curiosity. I'm down 47lbs in 5 1/2 months without a HRM, so I'm content with what I've been doing so far. I may get one if these last 15ish lbs don't want to come off, though. Thanks for all the input guys. Very interesting.

    Are you using a Polar with VO2max stat?
    That is set correctly with HRmax also?

    You are burning more calories, the HRM is wrong.

    I burned 230 calories on a 3/4 mile run but I weigh 237 lbs (5'5") and I'm a beginning runner! lol! I expect that number to go down as I get better and learn to even my pace more.

    I think it depends on how in shape you are....I do Zumba and a few other things but I still consider myself way out of shape. I'm 5ft, and weigh 145...I can't run an entire 5k yet, I did 3.3 miles in about 53 minutes and burned 806 calories. The week before I did 3.2 miles in 55 minutes and burned 668. I use a HRM, and I tend to burn more because I still have quite a bit to lose and I'm so out of shape. I think if you are used to doing it, and can run the whole 5k, you'll probably burn less. I'll probably burn less the more I do it.
