p90x day 1

I have been doing about an hour a day workout for the past five weeks and started p90x today. I'm still pretty heavy. My workouts up til now were 3 days a week 30 min running and 30 min cardio. and on the other 3 days 30 min running intervals and 30 minutes of strength training. I lost my first 20 pounds this way.

Question. is it safe to still do my running workouts now that I'm ramping it up to the hour long P90X workouts? I run slow still and really don't want to lose the ground on bringing my pace down. Also my 9th grade son has been on the cross country team and is off season now and is running with me (though he does his intervals faster than I do because he's in better shape) to stay on top of it during the off season so he can be ready for track in the spring.

I don't want to injure myself but I also don't want to miss out on the time with my son.

Advice?
