newbie has 2 questions

Just started using MFP to count carbs and I have 2 questions.

1. I scan an item and add it to my meal for the day. The package says "5 grams net carbs". The actual carb count is 14 with 9 grams of fiber. When I scan the UPC code,14 grams of carbs is added. How do I get that 5 grams of carbs listed instead of the 14?

2. The friend who got me started on MFP is keeping carbs to about 20/day and told me to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. Some days, he does 10 or 12. I'm trying to keep carbs to 30-40/day and usually drink about 6 glasses of water and 1-2 cups of coffee or tea. How does all that water (or lack thereof) affect the ketosis diet?

Replies

  • Why not just subtract out the fiber as you go?

For your 2nd question--I don't have the answer but I'm curious as to why you're doing a keto diet when you can get similar results using a less restrictive approach.

all that water doesn't affect ketosis which is down to your carb intake alone. The water in coffee or tea is still water and will "flush out your kidneys" or the other myths that water addicts peddle. You're doing fine.
