My question is how reliable can a watch hrm be. i got a bowflex hrm as agift. soi was wondering if these kind work just as well..

They work great for what they are meant to do, which is monitor your heart rate. As for tracking calories burned, consider their readings "for entertainment purposes only" and don't put too much faith in them.0

I can't comment on the bowflex model you're referring to but in general avoid models that don't have a chest strap; they're pretty much useless except to periodically check your hear rate. A model with a chest strap will constantly monitoring your heart rate but even then there are significant differences between the algorithms used by different manufacturers (and even models...).0
