I know this is a little off topic but with all the discussions about body image, struggles, feelings, and triumphs I think makeup deserves to be mentioned as well.

A lot of energy and money is spent to improve our bodies. It costs more money to eat healthier, we're all too familiar with the struggle to find the proper clothes to accentuate our new found curves, and we constantly think about our ultimate fitness goals.

After all, most of us are here to learn what we can do to look forward to a healthier future. We're drinking metric tons of water, eating well, and really striving to look our best and often. We work harder when we see the fruits of our labor and feel better about ourselves. As we're working hard, I believe it's important to look our best on our journeys to a slimmer, better us.

Whether it's a new skin care regimen or that sexy liquid eye liner you like to wear, makeup and proper skin care may be the extra boost to your self-esteem. I know when I put on my illuminating tinted moisturizer, concealer, liquid eyeliner, and pink lip gloss I feel remarkable. I can see my skin improving and minor enhancements to my facial routine often enhances my slimming waist line.

So why not rock that sexy butt-huggin' skirt in the back of your closet and your purple eyeliner and red lipstick? You spend countless hours working on your fitness; you deserve to enhance your foxy new look.

I don't wear a lot of make up, mainly because I am soooo allergic.
But I have used and been using AVON since I was 14.
I am 36 and I don't have one wrinkle or skin discoloration.
I only use a white stick, eyeliner and mascara, mainly brown and green and colored lip gloss.
And yes, I go to the tanning bed a few times a year until summer, but the SPF 45 helps with skin aging.

I do love to ""occassionaly"" go a bit glam and get foxy feeling when I get to try on clothes I haven['t worn in a while...

I have about 5-6 tennis type skirts I want to be in by October for vacation....
I have about 16 pair of jeans and pants and can only wear 7 comfortably right now....

    Hi

    I hear ya...AMEN!
I was born with freckles...have avoided the sun since my late teens and have been slathering on sunscreen and anti-aging products since then
When I got pg with #2 (dd) my cute little freckles became scary ugly blotches
After a few years (I'll be 35 in June) I decided to go to a derm to see what my options were for getting rid of them
One IPL (laser) treatment and within a few days, they were GONE...best $ I ever spent on myself...
It made a huge difference as far as my appearance...look younger and I feel better

I am glad you brought this up. I was wanting to ask a question about foundation but I didn't know if I could as on here.:blushing: What I need is a foundation that when I sweat in the summer it doesn't run off my face. Do you know of any make up that stays on good? For now I use Cover Girl, natural in a bottle and it looks good when put on but doesn't stay on for long, especially in the summer.

I use a tinted moisturizer in the summer. I think foundation feels like a mask. If I do wear foundation, a GREAT product is Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place makeup. It is a little pricey but you will most definitely get your moneys worth.

 I use a moisturizer then a powder very much like Bare Essentials. Sometimes I use a rice powder. It is lighter in color so it is great for discolorations. Then a bit of liner and something for my lips. Occassionally something for my cheeks it just depends.

I like tinted moisturizer a lot because I need minimum coverage and have found that it's light and hassle free; however, I also use foundation from tie to time and believe foundation is only as good as the skin you prime it with. I believe that Smashbox has excellent primers and foundations; Stila has great tinted moisturizers.

A good foundation that doesn't run off your face depends on a few factors:

    1.) How you apply it;
    2.) How you set it;
3.) How you prime your skin.

If you put foundation on your hand and rub it onto your face there's a good possibility that you're putting too much on. Sometimes we apply foundation like it's moisturizer and glob it on without realizing how much we wear.

I suggest using a foundation brush (Sephora sells great brushes) and smoothing the foundation over your face starting at your nose and working your way out. This way the foundation goes on light and provides better coverage than smoothing it on with your hands.

If you don't moisturize enough before wearing foundation, your skin attempts to absorb it because it like lotion; therefore, you apply more than you need.

After applying your foundation, set it with a powder. Bare Essentials sells a mineral veil which is great at keeping your makeup as fresh as you put it on.

    Good Luck!

(P.S: Dior, Smashbox, and Stila have great foundations and tinted moisturizers)

I sware by Neutrogena products. The foundation I use helps with acne prone skin, is fragrence free and does not clog pores. It is light and blends well. I blend it with a makeup sponge. I then use a concealer stick where needed and then loose powder. It never feels heavy and stays put all day. I do have very oily skin though and have to blot every so often and then powder my face again with pressed powder.

I use to use Cover Girl products but I found that my face was breaking out more. I still use their eye shadows though since Neutrogena don't make any. They are not cheap, about $10 for a small bottle of foundation but well worth it.

Makeup is one thing I would never buy cheap.

I have always have bad skin. I started breaking out when I was 9 yr old and had a full face of acne by 10 yr old. My parents never got help for me and I had to learn the hard way on how to take care of my face. Though I will never have perfect skin, it's a lot better than it ever was especially now that I drink lots of water. I always play up my eyes since I am blonde and you can't see my eyelashes or brows.

I like makeup sponges but their biggest problem is their tendency to absorb the makeup, which makes you waste more foundation than you need to.

If you put on foundation with your fingers you run the risk of spreading the bacteria on your hands to your face, even if you wash your hands prior to application.

That's why foundation brushes are so nice- they're clean, sanitary (if you wash and treat them like you should). The only downside to makeup brushes is the cost. A good one costs about $35.00.

If you're using drug store makeup than makeup sponges are fine since the cost is cheap. I've been using Dior Airflash and Smashbox, so when your foundation runs $45.00-$60.00 a pop, you'd want to conserve it as long as possible.

I know what you mean about being blonde, can't see my eye brows and lashes either and I feel like a clown when I try to darken my eybrows. I just to it real lightly with a brown pencil. But I still don't feel good about how it looks.:frown:

I use brown eyeshadow for my brows and use a brush to apply. It works better and looks more natural than a pencil. It takes a little practice to make it look right but is definitely worth it.

I used to use expensive foundations and concealers (Lancome = around $75 for both), until I found out about Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Cream foundation and concealer. These both ran me around $15 as opposed to the $75 I was spending on Lancome :noway: Here's a bunch of other people's opinions of it:

If you do go with this, its helpful to know that Maybelline follows an even/yellow odd/pink color scheme:

As far as applying it, I agree that the brushes are the most helpful. They don't waste all of that product that sponges do, which I hate! If you go to Sally Beauty Supply, they have a foundation brush by Face Secrets that runs around $10 IIRC.

I know what you mean, I have dark but sparse brows, but when I try to fill them in with powder or pencil, I end up looking like Groucho Marx or something :noway: I found this wax brow kit by Sonia Kashuk works really well. It fills in sparse or light brows but its much more subtle and natural looking.

You'll need a better brush than the one they supply with it though. Once again, you can try Sally Beauty's Face Secrets brush. I use their smudge brush for it since I already own it, but they do sell a brow brush that I haven't tried yet....
