Calorie consumption vs exercise

Hi

Thanks for all your advice but I’m afraid I am still confused!

I’ve heard that you shouldn’t eat less than 1200 calories to loose weight (to avoid body going into starvation mode) - I’m confused by whether this is before or after you have exercised.

I work out 3 times a week, 800 calories each, if I ignore these calories and continue eating 1200 calories a day diet it means I am only consuming 400 calories a day – (is this right?)

In which case should I be adding the 800 calories to my 1200 calories and actually eat 2000 calories on the day I exercise to avoid going below 1200 calories a day? Seems like a waste of my energy to exercise and keep eating when I do not get hungry on 1200 cals

Female / Large Frame / BMI 28.36 / 5ft 3in / 35 yrs / 160lbs / at least 2 litres of water a day / 1200 cals a day.

Please help?

The number MFP gives you as a guideline already has you at a deficit.

It's not necessary to eat back all of your exercise calories but it is a good idea to make sure your 'net' calories are somewhere between 1,200-1,400 maybe? That's what I aim for at least.

1,200 BARE MINIMUM if you don't work out that day.
