Caffeine, whats your take?

I quit drinking caffeine about a month ago. I drank Diet Dr. Pepper like it was going out of style (at least 88 ounces a day). I just wanted to see how my body functioned without it. Strangely enough, it functions just fine! I was a lucky one and didnt have caffeine withdrawal so quitting it was not that hard at all for me.
Thing is, caffeine is a stimulant. So technically it could help boost my metabolism a bit.

I notice on days when I drink coffee and work out my HR is higher so yes guess I dont have to work as hard to get my HR in that target range.0

I wouldn't try to get extra caffeine to "boost your metabolism".
But I also am not one of those people who think that caffeine is a bad thing. As long as your body tolerates it well and you have it in moderation like anything else. I live off coffee and tea (probably 90% of my drinking water comes from those), but I don't drink them for the caffeine or try to get an extra boost from them.0 -
My take on caffeine is generally an intake, usually in the form of coffee or black tea.0

While it's true caffeine is a stimulant, it doesn't have any miracle properties in regards to weight loss. Lol....except a couple of good strong cups of coffee can send you right to the bathroom!!!0 -

Exactly, its definitely a diuretic! My husband has a little in the mornings to help boost his workout. Just pondering today whether it may help boost mine as well, but I dont want to get sucked back in and drink ONLY diet dr. pepper again.0 -

Then I would say moderation is the key!!! A cup or two of coffee a day. Or (and the diet soda people are gonna jump all over me)....a glass or two of soda a day is fine. 88 ounces is not!!!!...lol I think you know that though:flowerforyou:0 -
I've been upwards of 1.2g a day, no ill effects at all0

First person that tries to take away my coffee better be ready to run! I have mostly given up sodas, regular ages ago and diet more recently, I do have an occasional Diet Dr. Pepper, but that's like a 12 oz can 1x a week. I drink coffee and tea regularly though, I will not give them up. Both have health benefits and antioxidants. I factor it in and use low-calorie flavored creamers most of the time. The fancy drinks from any coffee shop have more calories than I want to use, most of the time. I save them for treats or when my DH and I are road-tripping.0

My take is Starbucks. I could really go for some right now.0

My take is caffeine is fine, but giving up soda is better. If you want caffeine stick to tea or coffee.0

^^^^lol me too! all this talk of coffee has got me craving a cup. it's time to step out of the office and take a walk to starbucks!!:drinker:0 -
I mainline cups of English breakfast tea pretty much all day
And I have recently become addicted to Kenco Millicano - so my instant coffee, and therefore caffeine consumption, has gone up!
However I balalnce it out with lots of decaff green tea and water.
To be honest I'm more concerned about the amount of calories in Starbucks/Costa etc than I am about the caffeine. Meh.0 -
Whats my take? YES PLEASE0

diet soda is bad! Stick to tea or coffee0

I had my metabolic resting rate measured one time while regularly using caffeine and the other time without using caffeine. There was no difference in my resting rate. I don't drink caffeine anymore. Not because of that, but because the diet sodas made me feel bad. Especially during cardio workouts.0
-
it really isn't the caffine in soda that is bad - it is all the other junk that is...
I drink 2 cups of coffee a day with no problem...I treat my coffee as a treat and not a need - I add a little flavored creamer so the calories are about 50-75 for a cup and I will drink a cup instead of eating extra calories I don't need.
I gave up soda's over 2 years ago and only drink water, coffee and tea with an occassional extra (apple cider, glass of wine, lemonade) thrown in the mix when the occassion arises0 -
I love my Americanos and will never take acffeine out of my diet. I don't drink soda anymore, so coffee is it for me.0

diet soda is bad! Stick to tea or coffee
Prove it.0 -
I cut out caffenated sodas several years ago. I cut out carbonated beverages all together (sprite) a year and a half ago. I haven't looked back once.
Try strength training as a way to "boost your metabolism" instead of caffeine. From what I understand, strength training will boost your metabolism and help you burn more through the day.0 -
Sodas tend to bloat me, so I drink spark instead. I used to drink alot of soda and then decided to quit once I started eating healthy. Every once in a while I'll get a craving for one but when I take the first sip it reminds me of why I don't drink it anymore...it's way to sweet! Think of all the sugar in one can of soda! ;0)0

I enjoy my morning cups of coffee, it's a social thing - and it tastes great! I also can go days without coffee and not suffer withdrawals. I also enjoy diet soda & seltzers (flavored and straight-up), again, it's a social thing - and it tastes great.
It seems that at the moment - the health pontificators feel that coffee is "in-favor" and say that a bit "is good for you" - personally, I'm tired of following the latest health-effects status.
If you like a cup-o-joe, enjoy it! If you like diet soda, enjoy it! if you like Seltzer... well, you get the idea.0 -

i agree. fake sugar HAS been proven to be bad for you and has been shown to cause cancer in rats. (they are more like humans than anyone wants to belive...trust me I do research for a living)0 -

everything causes cancer in rats if you give it to them in the extreme doses the researches use. I can't think of a single class action suit against Sweet and Low, Equal, Splenda etc...because of a human that died from it, can you?
PS I have a couple of cups of coffee a week, It's my only source of caffine and I enjoy it with milk and fake sugar.0 -
I see nothing wrong with it. I was a habitual diet coke drinker for the longest time and haven't had any in a couple of years. Now I get my caffeine in the form of coffee but if tomorrow all caffeine was non-existent I would be okay with it. I did suffer from major withdrawal headaches when I stopped drinking diet coke. Ugh, it was the worst!0
