I just read this in shape magazine and found it interesting so I thought I would share..

"Have a baked potato. Spuds are a top source of potassium, a mineral that offset the effects of sodium. According to a new study in the Archives of Internal Medicine, consuming twice as much as potassium as sodium daily can halve you risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Most Americans consume only half of the 4700 mg recommended daily so load up on potatoes (900 mg) and bananas (430mg each)."

Twice as much potassium as sodium sounds like a hard thing to do.

  • Mmm not for me, I LOVE bananas!!

Also, try using LoSalt (or equiv, I'm in UK) - reduced sodium salt. I find it actually tastes a bit different, but you soon get used to it. :)

We have LoSalt here too. I found it at Whole Foods the other day. I bought a potassium glutomate (I think that's the name) supplement because I noticed through the iPhone app I wasn't getting near enough sodium (I don't eat potatoes).
