New to MFP, not so new to weight loss (Before and After)

...Where to begin..? I've been overweight my whole life, and I've realized quite recently that I've let it come in the way of the things I want and deserve. I always had a passion for food and science, but when I was choosing a program for university, I always repressed my desire to be a nutritionist or a dietitian, because surely a woman who is considered obese on the BMI could never be a successful nutrition counselor. I couldn't tell you exactly what changed my mind, but I definitely think that my parents, friends and boyfriend had a lot to do with it. It was about a year ago that I applied for a dietetics program and since then, I gained 15 pounds, put myself down and second guessed my decisions... but at the end of February, after stepping on the scales to my highest ever weight (242lbs, at 5'9), I decided that now was the time to get serious about logging my meals and exercising.
Long story short, I worked my butt off all summer and just barely hit my summer goal, to be under 200lbs, by the time school started in the fall. As of today, I've lost almost another 10 pounds, bringing me to a total of 50 pounds!
I still have about 30-40 pounds to go, and I'd love to meet some people with similar goals or experiences (or anybody at all)!

I think your personal story and history of being overweight, and the success of losing that weight will only contribute to your becoming a successful nutrition coach. You'll have empathy for your clients who are struggling to lose weight and you will know they can do it...because you have! You're doing an amazing job....keep up the good work!0

I graduated HS at 210. I lost 30 in a year strictly from just walking to class the first year of school. Then I lost another 40 between my freshman and sophmore year. After maintaining a 70 pound loss for 2 years, I started slacking and gained 15 back. I'm now on a mission to lose that extra 15 + another 10 to my life goal.. So I'm in the same boat! We got this!!!!0

I still find that I'm always high on my sugars for the day, but as long as the sugar doesn't come from empty calories and comes from things like fruits/veg and whole grains, I don't feel so guilty!
But I definitely have a sweet tooth haha! Im a feind for cookies, I try to make my own when I can (skinnytaste.com has a great recipe for chocolate chip ones!) so I know whats going into them and I make them quite small so it feels like I'm eating more! haha.
Try cutting back one thing at a time. Say if you find yourself eating sweet snacks and drinking pop or juice everyday. cut back one item at a time, to maybe 2-3 days a week and then to once a week and then keep it as a treat! Thats what I did with diet sodas. Now, I don't ever really want it anymore!
Hope that helped a little.. feel free to message me if you have any questions!0
