Sugar level number question

I was bad today. Ate out at Arby's. (Haven't filled out my diary yet) But had a shroom sandwich, curly fries and an unsweet tea at about 1:30 today. Just checked my sugar level (4 hours later) and it was 65. Seems low to me after eating such a big lunch. Is it low? The correct number? Anybody out there who checks their sugar levels?
p.s. I'm not diabetic. I used hubby's glucose meter.

No, it's not too low.. you checked your blood sugar Four hours later.. you have basically returned to normal (if a tad low.. 70 to 110 is good, 83 is best) and are ready to eat again. You should check your blood sugar 2 hours after a meal. If you digest quickly, then 1 hour and a half.. You need to figure out when your blood sugar reaches its peak. If you are extremely healthy, it shouldn't go up much at all.
It's good that you are checking, especially not being a diabetic. Good on you.0 -
Home blood glucose meters are only accurate +/-20% If you were to take two consecutive readings on two seperate fingers, you're also likely to get a different result. Average fasting readings should be between 70-100 for healthy non diabetic people. As the previous poster already noted, blood glucose peaks around 2 hours following carb consumption. With the 4 hour span you mentioned, your blood glucose would have been well back into a normal range.
Coming from a person with Type 1 diabetes for 16+ years, I wouldn't be concerned unless you test more frequently and see a pattern of consistantly low numbers0 -
Thanks for the replies.
It's funny, but several months ago, if my level had been 65, I would have been staring into space like a zombie. But now that I'm (mostly) watching what I eat and exercising regularly, my body can take the lower numbers. Not sure why, but I'm very grateful!
