mapmyfitness and HRM overestimating calorie burn

I just purchased a polar h7 HRM and used it in conjunction with mapmyfitness for the first time tonight at my powerlates class. I was shocked to see that mapmyfitness had my calorie burn at 874 calories for 46 minutes in class. My average heart rate was 102 and my max 138. I have all my personal info entered correctly. Anyone have any ideas on why the burn is so high?

What did your HRM say? All exercise sites use generic numbers, HRM is a little more specific. But unless you run with a vo2 analyzer you are just guessing as best you can.
  • I was using MMF on my phone as the "monitor'. I just used the chest strap sensor. I know that most sites are only a guestimate but the number is over double what is should be.

HRM is a closer approximation but if you use it consistently you can gauge the measurements in terms of a more personalized measurment, but I don't like how MMF counts exercise calories, although it's not too far off.
  • But shouldn't it be calculation my calories burned from what it is reading from the heart rate sensor? MMF recognizes the sensor, it shows my heart rate as I am exercising, but there is no way I burned that many calories.
