Stupid Gym Tricks (I'm glad I used a spotter)

I was doing a traditional lifting day today and pushing up my weights. I decided to try for a new personal best in the bench press. I had just done 4 reps at 185, so I figured I could handle 10 lbs above my previous best of 195. I was sharing the bench with another guy and he offered to spot me. Normally I don't bother with a spotter because no one else is there and I am pretty good at assessing what I can do and not getting in any position that I can't get our of.

This time I did ask for his help--lucky for me. Instead of putting 45-25-10 on the bar, I put 45-35-10 or 225, not 205,

Needless to say, as soon as I unracked the bar and brought it my chest--it stayed there.

At first I was a little embarrassed at my total failure to move the "205". I said to the guy spotting--"oh, well, I guess I DIDN'T have it today".

I realized the mistake when I took off the weights--nothing to do but just laugh at myself and move on to the next exercise.

lol. I had the same problem tonight, Adding up the weights on the bench . I impressed myself with 85 being my max weights, could only do 5 reps, and it was the last set, But I put it up there! I will only bench with a spotter, I have the fear of what happened to you , happen to me,! lol :blushing:
