Mysteriously losing 1/2 pound a day - how is that possible?

Just gotta pose this question. I am a 5'5" female in the 170 pound range and eating my 1200 calories a day. When I am good and stick to those 1200 calories, I notice I am losing a 1/2 pound a day. I'm not sure how it's possible to burn through the 1,750 calories in a 1/2 pound in addition to my 1,200 daily calories. I have a desk job and don't exercise, though I do have to run to the copier or courthouse throughout the day. I wouldn't think it's "water weight" either. I tried researching it on the internet but can't quite come up with an answer. Maybe someone here can help? Thanks! -Jenn :)

I really don't have an answer for you on why that is happening, but my advice is to not weigh yourself daily. Only weigh yourself once a week, and see what that number is. It's going to take more time to really see what your "true" losses are.

I have your answer. Have you ever calculated your TDEE? Check out this website:

You actually burn more calories than you think in a day!
  • Thanks Amy- that's a great link though I must be exercising more at my "desk" job than I thought because according to it, I'm still only burning 1858 calories a day whereas to lose the weight that I am, I must actually be going through 2,950.
