Repeat & repeat--UGH. Tips guys??

So stepped on the scale and found I am back down to the low point in my weight (again). This makes like the 3rd time I had to fight down after a gain from either not caring, being lazy or whatever. The weekends seem to do me in and then I fight the rest of the week to undo the damage--repeat & repeat. Frankly, I'm sick of this. It takes a lot of work that could be aimed at getting me lower on the scale beyond this point rather than losing the same weight over and over.

So, making changes. I was exercising five days a week and skipping weekends--reinforcing the i'm gonna be lazy mentality I guess. So, I am going back to every other day including weekends to see if that helps nip this problem in the butt.

One of the things I do is occassionally go to the movies for entertainment. I found out Monday what the calorie count is for the popcorn and sodas. Screw that, I don't remember the exact numbers this minute but it is like 2,000 calories just for that alone. I'm now thinking bottle of water for the movies.

We rarely eat out so that is not an issue.

Any other tips guys??

Thanks for listening, Debbie

You have to adapt your lifestyle from now on. Making sure you exercise more is a good start, cutting out unnecessary bad food is another good idea, but you have to be consistant long term for it to work. There will be days you will be tired or "lazy", but you have to fight through that and work out anyway(ex: I spent all day at trial yesterday, yet I still made sure I made my 8pm Crossfit class even though I was mentally shot). If you like certain things, like popcorn at the movies, sneak in the air popped healthy kind :) If you don't eat out much, good, but make sure you are cooking healthy options at home, and if you do go out, pick chicken, turkey or fish(not slathered in sauces or butter) as your meal. You obviously have decided to be committed to this, and THAT is the important part, if you are committed, it will work.

In order to give good advice, it's necessary to know what you're doing more specifically. What are you calorie goals during the week? How bad are you being on the weekends?

Without knowing your particular story, here are a few general rules to help "make it stick" as it were:

    1) Set realistic, sustainable goals. If you try to do everything at once (i.e. go from 3000 to 1200 calories daily, go from no exercise to an hour every day, go from eating whatever you want to ONLY veggies and lean meats) you WILL fail. Life has to be enjoyable, and there are no short-term magic fixes. Set reasonable goals that you can stick to, and then stick to them!
    2) Even on your cheat days, TRACK. It's one thing to go over by 500 calories, it's another to chow down on 6000 calories of junk in one day. Going completely off the program once a week, if it's bad enough, CAN set you back the entire week's progress. Hold yourself accountable. Splurge, but within reason.

Going to the movies is a treat (at least for me it is). Therefore don't make it not fun by not having things that make the experience. However, you can do less damage by getting diet soda (yeah yeah chemicals blah blah blah but once a month at the movies isn't going to kill anyone). Popcorn is actually NOT that high calorie, so just ask for no or little butter and use plain salt instead of the cheese ones that probably have calories. Popcorn is going to be a better for you option than candy anyway.
