yet another new beginning....

Of course I have several bad habits that I need to work on....
stopping soda (even though diet),
moderating wine (ha! notice I didnt stay stopping)
stop buying candy for the office (2 rolos took 54 of my daily calories?!)
cutting out white starchy foods..breads etc

but dontcha think .. just maybe.. instead of attempting to cold turkey a bad habit (which so far, has never worked)
maybe I should ADD a good habit... like drinking water.. (notice.. I didnt say MORE :( )

thoughts. ?

In my opinion you need to jump n with BOTH feet and cold turkey it! I had to do that because the baby steps didn't work for me...I tried that...but everyone is different. See I am ALL or nothing. I can't half azz it.
You can shoot me a friend request and I can tell u how I started and how I lost my weight

If you have tried cold turkey and it didn't work before then don't expect it to work now. Personally, I can't give up anything because I know that habit is not sustainable. Just remember, EVERYTHING in moderation. It's ok to have a treat (so long as you don't binge); it's ok to not be perfect. No one is perfect. Use the things you want to cut out completely as the occasional treat, like a diet soda after you've done great all week.

Also, I completely agree with you that you should be adding new, healthy habits! Start small if you need to but don't EVER give up! Even if you make a mistake, don't let it get you down because giving up won't get you anywhere.

    ****
All of that said, if you have issues with baby steps, go in with "both feet" as Beck0708 says! What works for one person might not work for all.

Remember that this is a learning process and you will learn what works for you. :)

In my opinion you need to take a look at yourself and discover why you are overweight/unhealthy and take steps to correct it.

Eat healthy but dont exercise? - start exercising.

Eat a lot of "junk" foods (cookies, candy, ice cream, cake, pie, etc)? - stop buying them.

Eat healthy but portion sizes are too large (once you get a measuring cup and scale, you'll be surprised about how many calories you eat vs how many you think you eat)? - after using this site (and buying measuring equipment), you'll get a better feel for portion sizes.

The sooner you break these bad habits, the sooner you'll be on the road to eating healthier and living a healthier lifestyle. You can choose to change one small thing at a time. If so, expect slower results. Dont think of this as a "diet". Doing so is telling yourself that this is a temporary situation. Think of it as changing your lifestyle from those with unhealthy habits to one that is healthier. That way, the changes you'll make will become permanent.

You'll find a lot of different suggestions about how to go about doing this. Some will make drastic changes. Some will take a slower approach (no more soda, then after a month or two, no more "junk" foods.)

Eating unhealhy, not exercising, making excuses, etc are likely why your body is in the shape it is today. If you do not like how things are, you'll change them and to the degree to which you are unhappy. Eventually you'll have to decide which you want more, the junk food and inactivity, or a healthy and fit body.

My philosophy these days is this. Everything is permissible, not everything is beneficial. I've not elimated anything out of my diet except a couple things I have no ability to use self control when eating. The "betcha can't eat just one Lay's" advertising campaign years ago was written just for me, I'm sure of it. But I digress. Other than a couple no-no foods, nothing is off limits. However, most of the time I plug the food into MFP to see the nutrition info BEFORE I eat it. I really have to think hard about eating it if it has no nutritional benefit whatsoever. I have to REALLY want to eat it. And sometimes I do. But many times I seek a better alternative.

Oh and I intend to reintroduce the no-no foods when I feel I can better manage my eating habits with them.

I am reading a book that said "you crave what you eat". Eating garbage perpetuates the craving for garbage. It's why I don't do 100 calorie packs of sweet or salty goodies, etc. When I eat that stuff, I just crave more. And I eat all six of the 100 calorie packs in the box! LOL

Its not a new beginning, its just stage two. Otherwise its like you tell yourself you got held back for bad behavior and you have to repeat ninth grade. Just level up your determination and blow the last stage out of the water. Its a self-motivation level up! :flowerforyou:
