Deer crossing? Really? (rant)

I have to rant.
I almost hit a deer AGAIN this morning. Yes, there was a deer crossing sign...
But seriously, WHY do they have the deer crossings on the busy parts of the roads?
And on blind corners too?
I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to have the deer cross in a less populated area, or a road with less traffic?
I understand they have migratory needs and such, and need to move and get to other areas where they can find food, water, etc.
But they REALLY should have them cross in a safer area. For their sake AND the cars that may hit them...

Well...I don't think they put up the signs and then make the deer cross there. They put up the signs where the deer are already normally crossing at.

Since all they eat is grass/leaves, they are starving.
Therefore they are not smart enough to use the crosswalks.

Thanks for this, I needed a laugh. We don't have wild deer in New Zealand but my take on this is that the crossing signs are to warn motorists of the hazard so that you drive defensively to avoid hitting a deer. If there was no sign then I could understand your frustration.

    okay.
if there are woods next to the road..theres probally deer in the woods.
logically theres a chance that a deer could come out the woods with there being a sign or not.
cause i bet the deer dont care if its a busy road or not.

Well then we should at least provide those orange flags at the *most used* crossing points, don't you think? Deer grabs flag and starts crossing. Driver sees deer with flag. Driver slows down and lets deer cross. Deer puts flag in the little flag holder thingy for the next deer to use.

And at a bare minimum expense to Mr. and Mrs. John Q Taxpayer, might I add.

Why not move them to the school zones where there are lots of cross walks? People already have to drive slow there.

Or put them in less populous towns. Certainly not on the Interstate. I mean, my GOD, that's just begging for an accident!

I was hit by a deer who was NOT crossing with the light. I clearly had the right of way. The miserable thing left a strip of fur along the trim of my car like a dang pimpmobile. I should have backed up and hit it back.

Um... the signs are there because there is a high deer population in that area. It's not a designated place where deer were TOLD they could cross.. it's because they DO cross there and they don't listen when we tell them not to.

This rant is old - would be funnier if rather than ranting someone provided a funny solution to the illiterate creatures. Or a practical one.

But they put the signs there so the deer know that this is where they should cross. They should move the signs to less busy roads. School zones would be perfect.
