Well, Portland IS 2 hours from Boston, so you won't want to go any further north, I am an hour north of Portland.
I don't know enough about Portland to give recommendations.
All I know is the Mall is nice, and there are lots of good places to eat too!
    And 94.3 WCYY!

  • Midcoast is wonderful...about 35 minutes from Portland, out of the city and lovely scenery. We are in the Bath area.

That is exactly what we are looking for, not in the city but not to far away, a peaceful town that is family friendly. are there universities near Bath?

Bowdoin College is the next town over from Bath in Brunswick. I live in southern NH which is about an hour or more depending on traffic from Boston.

We live in South Portland, Maine and LOVE it! You won't find a good deal on houses in Portland unless you want an old house and no land. I would suggest looking around in South Portland, Scarborough (might be pricey though), Westbrook, WIndham, Gorham, and there are more. You have University of Maine in Portland and Gorham Campas as well as a handful of smaller colleges scattered throughout the area. We live two minutes from turnpike and take the Amtrak down to games in Boston all the time. If you have more questions feel free to message me. Tracy

I am from southern NH but have seen alot of Maine. Most of the town's int he Portland area and south are nice if you want to stay with in range with Boston. Freeport, Kennebunk, Wells, York, Kittery are all very nice. The are close to everything, Beaches and the White Mountains. I am not to fond of the Sanford area. However, if you want to venture further away from Boston, the Rockland and north toward Bar Harbour are absolutely wonderful. As well the western Maine toward the NH line and the White Mountains. The Rangeley maine area is so awesome with lakes and mountains galore. And if you are into the winter sports that is the place to be.

I'm about an hour south of Boston. I love Maine though, my wife's family owns land there. I want to move there someday when the kids are grown. I want to have a nice big cabin on a bunch of land with lots of privacy.
