Anyone have PCOS?

One of my biggest obstacles in weight loss has been my PCOS. For those that don't know, basically, your body considers itself to be in a constant state of third trimester pregnancy, making it practically impossible to lose weight. I've dealt with it for years and haven't done much to try and help myself because it was so frustrating. I've decided now that before I have kids, I want to get myself in shape and lose the extra weight I've been gaining for years. I'm not on any medications for the PCOS- the doctor tried to give me Metformin to increase my metabolism, but I don't like medication and I'm uncomfortable being in a regimen where I have to take four pills a day every day for the rest of my life.
So, does anyone else have PCOS? How are you doing? Anyone have it that's had success and can share some tips?

Hi
I found out abot 6 yrs ago about having PCOS, and yes my weight has incresaed over the years, I also was given the same medication as you and i rarly take it as like yourself i hate the regime.
I am doing well on this health kick I have set myself. I have said to myself this is not a diet but a lifestyle change and I have apporoached my weight loss in a more positive way. Instead of moping that I cant have this and that, I have looked at what I can eat and used in in my cooking and through wow I didnt realise I could have that.
I am not a massive fan of fruit or so I thought so went out and brought loads of fruit to try and fouund I liked most of them, It's weird how growing up not liking something stops you from having so much. It very true that your tastebuds do change over the years.
You;ll find that weight loss will help so much with the condition to and the best way to help it is to looose and excercise, crack that and you've cracked your PCOS.
Get yourself a really good cook book and have a day cooking, invite your friends round and get them joining you to motivate you.
Good luck with your journey : )0 -
I have slow steady weight gain for the last 8 years. About 3 months ago I began treatment for PCOS. I began taking Metformin at that time. For the first time in years instead of gaining I have lost 10 pounds without changing my diet or activity. That has given me the motivation to really begin to TRY to get healthy. PCOS is a chemical problem, and can be treated as such. This is my first week with myfitnesspal, but I feel like treating the PCOD has put me on a level playing field. As a RN I would tell you that to get the best results you need to treat the underlying reason why you are having weight gain. If that is the PCOS then I would recommend that you do try the metformin at least for 4 or 5 months to see if it helps you. Best of luck in whatever choice you make!0
