Bodymedia and MFP (what to set calories at on MFP)

Just a quick question... what do I set my calories at on MFP? Do I keep them the same as what bodymedia suggests? I am slowly trying to figure this gadget out but want to work with the same numbers across the board.

Thank you for any suggestions.

How long have you had the bodymedia? If it's brand new, I'd suggest wearing it a couple of weeks to see your ups and downs and get an idea of TDEE. Or you can go to one of the websites to estimate your TDEE if you want a number to start with, then adjust it when you see what your bodymedia tells you. I started out with the numbers that bodymedia set for me, but I found they were too high (had me eating 1950 per day, but that was at a 500 deficit because it thought I would burn 2450 per day--I only burned that much on days I worked out for longer than an hour, which were the weekends). After about 10 days, I adjusted mine down to eating 1650 because I found I burned closer to 2150 on a regular day, then on days when I worked out and burned more, I could eat more (just like MFP). After I upped my workouts to 6 per week, I upped my calories on bodymedia to keep the 500 deficit so I'd still lose about a pound a week, altho I actually lost more like .8 per week, which turned out to be fast enough for me.

So, play with it a little. If you are planning to burn as much as bodymedia is telling you to burn, then you can comfortably set your calories at what they tell you, too. If not, then set it a little lower (or higher) and see how it goes for a couple of weeks.

After a couple of weeks, the bodymedia learns more about how you burn and the numbers will get a little more accurate.

I've been using mine for about a month now and my results are sticking to around the same range. I always base my calorie intake off of what I burn to make sure I get that 1000 calorie deficit. But definitely give it more time to really see how you burn. I burn around 2400 on the days I don't workout and then add about 500+ calories when I workout.
