Cold Weather Exercise

I'm feeling motivated and eager with my current exercise. I walk with my dog at least twice a day and she is the motivation I need to get moving. I have spent most of the summer biking with her but now that the cold weather is here, I'm feeling less excited about being out. My toes and fingers are cold... and honestly, it's hard to get out of bed when it's below 0C!!!
So help!!

1. How do you stay motivated when the weather turns cold?
2. Suggestions for keeping warm when you're out? (expecially feet and hands)
3. Any other northeners out there that can help motivate me to keep going?

I like under amour cold gear longjohn style underwear. I wear it when I'm running and hunting. As long as you keep moving it keeps you warm. On really cold days I'll wear toe warmers in my boots. I hate running in the heat, I'd rather hae it be very cold outside. I love the cold crisp air in my lungs. It also keeps you moving, a slow body gets colder, faster.

join a gym and start crushing the weights...always warm in there and you will see great benefits :)

Just get the clothing you need, and carry on. You'll soon learn to love the feeling of being outdoors in the cold. It makes you feel all alive and stuff.

I live in northern Illinois and we get our share of snow and cold. I plan to continue biking this winter as long as the streets are plowed. Check out bikewinter.org

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling excited about getting out in the cold. Bring it on.
(I'll just make sure there's a hot cup of tea at the end of the trail)

I love winter (well, except for shoveling the driveway, but that's what teenage kids are for). If you're dressed properly for it being active outdoors can be a very enjoyable all year 'round thing.

Dress in layers but don't be overdressed, if you're running or snowshoeing etc you should feel a bit chilly to start off but you will warm up, in fact you will perspire at -35°C if you're exerting yourself (and I've had the frost on my fleece layer as proof).

If you get cold feet check out merino wool socks, they're light & warm (not at all itchy) and stay warm when wet.

For really cold weather consider mittens rather than gloves. There are glove liners available that reflect the heat back to you but I haven't seen them in Canada for a while and I found some nice gloves by Columbia that have a built in reflective layer so they're quite light and warm at the same time (I'm wearing them in my profile picture, it was about -15°C that day).

    Have fun!

    Brian,
I definitly need to check out the sock department! That's going to help. Sounds like a shopping trip.
Now the only question left will be, "At what temperature does the dog need to wear HER sweater?"
