Rasberry Ketones

I have been hearing a lot of buzz surrounding this product. It was recently touted by Dr.Oz as an effective fat burner. I take everything with a grain of salt no matter who the opinion comes from until I try it myself. But I was wondering if anyone here has had a chance to try it and if so what results if any did you have?

Thanks!

The only thing this worked on is some rats in a lab. You'd have to eat your body weight in ketones to get any kind of benefit, and then you'd feel to sick to want to eat anything else.

    Eat less, move more.
    There's a reason it's cliche.

Well its a supplement so I dont think you would have to eat the ketones from rasberries. I think they said you would have to eat 90lbs of rasberries to obtain that much of the ketones. If that is what you meant? Otherwise they said a adequate dosage was 100mg.

You may very well be right but they seem to be selling out everywhere. Thought there might be something to it.

Bump. Was hoping to get some input before I went to GNC. Nobody?
  • I've been on it for a couple months, don't really notice much difference...except the raspberry burps :)

Please save your money for something that may actually help, like a food scale, or put it towards your gym membership, or go to the grocery store and buy some tasty fresh food.

Keytones haven't been proven effective unless you're an overfed rat.

Don't let marketability fool you. The vast majority of weight loss supplements, and I'd even say some diets, some books, and some pieces of equipment, are going to prey on overweight people looking for either a shortcut or a scapegoat. And that's not a dig on you sir, it's a cold hard truth.

Create an energy deficit, move a bunch, and save your cash.

The reason this stuff sells is because everyone is looking for a quick fix. And marketing execs know that. Since the dawn of time (or somewhere roughly forever ago), people have been willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want. As long as it's easy.

I took Controlled Labs REDuction which contains raspberry ketones among other ingredients. I ate a very low calorie diet, didn't feel hungry, and lost a lot of weight. However, it could have also been a $30 placebo so I just felt more energetic and less hungry therefore eating less.

I have no way of knowing...

I very much appreciate all of your time and feedback. As I said I try to keep a very skeptical frame of mind when it come to fad supps. But that is not to say that something won't come along that works. I remember how good the old school ESA stacks worked until they banned them.

I went ahead and bought a bottle of green coffee extract with the raspberry ketone. I am going to at least give them a fair shot and see what happens.

At any rate, thanks for your input:-)

My husband insisted we give it a try. He saw them on Dr. Oz ("if Dr. Oz recommends...") What a quack. Anyway he is NOT dieting but would like to lose weight. I am dieting and have been since April. Did they work? Absolutely--on our wallet. Bought 2 months + 1 month free. Enough for both for 6 weeks. Saw no change what so ever. Remember: if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. And if you are overweight there is only one way to lose weight: burn more calories then you take in--either by reducing your intake, or increasing your exercise or both (best)

Rule #1 of dieting/weight loss - don't believe a word Dr. Oz says. He gets paid (quite handsomely, I'm sure) to pimp supplements and seemingly has a new "miracle pill" every week. As Sidesteel said, these hawksters are snake oil salesmen preying upon desperate overweight persons looking for a shortcut - and there aren't any.

So, how will you know if it did anything? It might be something else that caused any change you noticed including placebo.
Just because something is popular doesn't make it true. That's an appeal to popularity logical fallacy.

I am not really expecting anything at all but for the next week I am going to accurately input all of my excercise and diet info then weigh and measure myself at the end of the week , and so on until the bottles are gone. Thats the great thing about all of the charts and reports here on MFP..you can really see if there is any major fluctuations in weight, & measurements which I do record weekly and have since I joined. I have steadily dropped around the 1-2lb range for the past month so If I notice any major change then I will definately relay that info. As I said though I am not expecting much at all.

Your body makes its own ketones when it burns fat. I think raspberry ketones are a placebo effect....
In my physiology lab in college we tested our urine (yeah yeah gross, its a part of my degree) and I was on my weight loss journey....I had a ton of ketones in my urine... If you read about it, ketones are a chemical EXCRETED by your body as you lose weight. It doesnt utilize the ketones.

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003585.htm

I was on a low carb high protein diet, which is one of the reasons for the ketones.

This!! You said it perfectly. :flowerforyou:
  • A doctor by the name of Lindsay Duncan was on the View today talking about superfoods and the last superfood he mention was Raspberry Ketones. The Situation was a guest host and he said when you need to lose those last 5 to 10 pounds the Raspberry Ketones really does work.

My email box has been flooded with ads trying to get me to buy Raspberry Ketones, however Dr. Oz and Dr. Duncan both says it is under $10. I will try it in time and report back my results to you.
  • This is all new to me but uh what about Ketosis and the fact that that is bad and what about the fact that you DON"T want elevated levels of ketones in your body? What am I missing here?

    You're confusing ketosis with ketoacidosis.

Toclarify, I am taking HNS Raspberry Ketone/375mg & Windmill brand 100% Pure Green Coffee Bean extract/800mg daily.

Just a side note. I took my first dosage of both supplements about 4 hours ago and I must say I am experiencing a noticeable reduction in my usually ravenous night time cravings. Maybe its placebo..dunno. I usually start thinking about food and getting strong cravings around this time at night ESPECIALLY on a Friday when I know my cheat meal is coming up the next dayn on Saturday.

I am going to wait until next week though until I start drawing any strong conclusions about these supps and what their effects on MY BODY might be.

@Ladimang- Thank you for the link..I am getting ready to read it.

I tried this for a month and saw absolutely no weight loss at all. I developed a very nasty rash from it though and the actual pills made me feel sick a half an hour to an hour after taking them. I also found that I could not sleep and just felt lethargic. After getting off of them, it took almost another month for the rash to finally disappear.
