Medieval bread bowl?

So, at my sisters school, they are having a medieval feast. There will be soup, pastries, and the like. They have wheat bread bowls... How many carbs do you reckon are in one of these things??? Also, how can I eat soup without my sodium going through the roof. I'm actually scared I might not be able to eat anything... :indifferent:

In medieval times, you would eat the contents of the bowl or thick hunk of bread, and then you would leave the 'bowl' for the servants.
Just a suggestion if you want to be authentic!!

Not sure of the calories - but I never understood the concept of a bread bowl. Doesn't the soup soak straight thru?

Probably a lot of carbs, if it's a medieval thing they should hopefully have some high protein foods, these type of events tend to have chicken legs or something along the lines.

You will just need to see what is available and make the best choices you can with what is available, if that means you go over your macros/cals for one day it's not the end of the world just drink plenty of water to prevent water retention from the sodium.

    Enjoy the event, have fun!

Dont eat the bowl, and make sure you drink lots of water before and after to flush the sodium, one day of high sodium won't kill you...(Unless you have serious BP problems, and then you should take your own food anyways...)
Eat just a litlle piece of everything, and make sure you get some exercise in beforehand..... Enjoy!

Maybe someone knows of a website where one could look up the nutrition facts?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_bowl

Use of a bread bowl can add considerably to a soup's calorie count. Calorie counts posted at Au Bon Pain, for example, state that the bread bowl contains 620 calories in addition to those in the soup itself.

Depending on the size of the bowl (I've seen some of those things get pretty big) I would log it as 1/2 a loaf of bakery style bread think sourdough or pumpernickel. truly though just eat it and have a blast!

Maybe you can do some jousting to burn off calories?

If you storm the castle or joust a bit you'll work off the calories. Eat and have fun.

LOL great minds........ You just beat me.

It must be something in the water. (or we're just both smart %$)

I love medieval festivals!!! Step 1, you find the turkey leg booth, step 2, you get you money out and put your wallet away so you have 2 free hands, step 3, you buy and consume 2 turkey legs.

Its actually just in a gym with soup and pastries at each table. I am dressing up as a dirty peasant! I will have mud and junk all over me and everything!

I looked them up once. I don't remember how much it was though. It was a lot, but those huge turkey drumsticks are over 1000 calories each. You can't have a turkey drumstick without beer. It's scientifically impossible. The universe would explode or something.
