strength trainig to burn calories.. when does scale tip?

I gained back 2 lbs in 1 wk! Not surprised. I think two reasons: I have up my strength training and had 2 bad food days. Don't know how much muscle mass needs to be build for it to kick in???? I have lost some inches (at least that's what folks kept saying last week). So hopefully I have gained muscle :-) And more muscle will help tip the scale soon again..

So,is it true that you need to build muscle mass to bburn more calories and lose weigt?
How much muscle mass needs to be built before increased metabolism and loss of weight? Can any expert / SME shed some light?
