training program for 1/2 marathon

I started running this year and really enjoy it. I did my first 5k in 36 minutes and really enjoyed it. I'm a slow runner, just do it for me, not for winning a race. A friend of mine suggest we do a 1/2 marathon in May so I have 7 months to prepare. My goal is simply to finish the race, running the entire time, no matter how slow I move. I can run 2 miles easily, the 3rd is a struggle but I can get it done so I'm not in the best shape right now. Does anyone have a suggestion for a training plan to help me prepare?

The Runners World website has a program called SmartCoach that will build a plan for you based on your current speed and training volume, distance of the race, and the length of time. I think Hal Higdon also has a good 1/2 mary walk/run program which also may be a good option for you. Good luck!0

I used this

It worked well for me.

I use the Runkeeper app and website.
Here is a 16 week training plan designed with the goal of finishing a half marathon (they have others as well):

Have you thought about doing a 10k first, say in Jan or Feb? Use that as a stepping stone to a half marathon.0
