Keeping motivated

I have been an avid MFP recorder for over half a year now, not missing one day. I'm at a plateau of sorts (actually gained a couple pounds) for too long, and my motivation is lagging. I find that if/when I continue to lose, even just a little, I'm excited and continue to follow good eating habits. But when I plateau for too long, I lose my motivation. That's where I am right now.

I'm getting bored. The pursuits I love (eating out at good restaurants, cooking great meals, quilting, reading) are all sedentary or worse. Working out, exercising, even walking for health, are just not interesting to me. Every single day that I go for a walk, I have to push myself out the door. It's not something I look forward to. I think the runner's endorphin high is something I don't think I will ever get, even though I walk at a fast pace.

How can I get motivated again? What am I doing wrong? Why do I feel this way?

Have you thought about trying a new form of exercise? Take a class at your local gym or buy yourself a new fitness DVD.

Or, since you love to cook, why not buy yourself a new cookbook filled with healthy, low cal recipes? Challenge yourself to cook a new meal every day.

Motivation is something each of us have to find and maintain for ourselves.

For me, taking care of my body and my health makes it much more likely that I'll have many more years to continue enjoying the things that I love, like reading and dining out. That I won't end up with my leg cut off because of diabetes or in such poor health and a burden to my family because I didn't take care of myself.

My husband's best friend suffered a massive heart attack two weeks ago. He is 52 years old. The doctors said it should have killed him...that he was that one in a million person that survives a heart attack like this. Did he exercise and eat a healthy diet? Of course not.

If you really, REALLY think about how your life could be cut short or made much worse by not taking care of yourself now and how your loss would impact those who love you and depend on you, it might give you the motivation to make some changes now.
