Is your BMR your maintenance number?

If not, what is your maintenance number?
Just wondering

Maintenance should be above your BMR and will depend on your activity level, height, age, etc. BMR is the base number of calories your body burns just to exist.

For my current weight (234#), it's 2400-2500. My BMR is around 1766, depending on the calculation.

That would be TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). Here's a calculator I see people post frequenly:
    http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html

(BMR is the amount of calories you need to lie in bed all day.)

It would only be my maintenance if I were literally stuck in bed all day, sleeping.

My maintenance is in the 2600-3000 range, depending on what my workouts look like in a particular week.

No u will lose weight if u eat upto ur bmr(basal metabloic rate).......bmr is least no of cals burned by body if u do not do any physical activity.........still u will burn cals arnd 1700-2000 depending upon ur age,sex,ht,wt,genetics....... ..remember u require energy to breathe, digest, think, heart pumping, repair cell damages...etc....

eat upto ur tdee.........which is ur maintenance cals........

I'm currently eating at my BMR right now and losing weight consistently each week, so I would assume maintainance is a little over the BMR.

Sorry I still don't quite get it.. Is it the NET balance after exercising that we need to eat back?
How do we know what is our tdee? N how do I calculate out?

    Calculate it here:http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html

    My BMR is 1850 KCals........
    My TDEE is 3150 KCals........

So if i eat anything less than 3150 KCals, i will lose fat/muscle resulting in weight loss.........

I use to eat around 2000 KCals everyday for past 4 months now........result in calorie deficit of around 3150-2000=1150 KCals.......

I do workout 7 days a week and maintaining a cal deficit of 1150 KCals a day........1150*7=8050 KCals a week........

Now if 7700 KCals are burned weekly then i use to lose exact 1 Kg of Fat(Assuming Muscle loss 2 b nil due to weight training, Water weight as constant)....

With this "PRECISE and ACCURATE" assumption....i have lost 16.8Kgs in exact 16 weeks today....:smile:

Hope TDEE issue is clarified here with example........

Use one of the online calculators. I prefer this one because of all the other stuff you can do with it:

    http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/

but fitness frog (listed above) and fat2fitradio.com are also good.

no it's not, because I'm not currently in a coma. My BMR is about 1300, my maintenance is 1800-2000, depending on how active I am for the day.
