So I'm not much of a fish eater (frankly don't like most fish, do like white bass and cod). Most of the meals I make are either chicken breast, pork loin, lean burger. Out of these I tend to cook burger in some sort of way the most as it is the most budget friendly, however, hubby told me he is tried of the same types of meat. Any suggestions? Please keep in mind we are on a limited budget, and I can not have soy due to health reasons and my doctor wants me to get protein with every meal I make.

If you like white bass and cod, you could try other mild white fish like pollock, tilapia, and dover sole. Pollock has a texture much like cod, but is quite a bit less expensive, crazy nutritious, and not likely to be contaminated with mercury or PCBs. Tilapia is good for all the same reasons, but is almost exclusively farmed insteaf of wild-caught, if that makes a difference to you. Dover sole is light, delicate, and just plain delightful.
As for other proteins, you could make good use of bean/grain combos (super inexpensive) or look for other meats like rabbit or elk. Game tends to be super lean and, IMHO, tastes fantastic when properly cooked.0 -
I know you said you aren't much of a fish eater but I have any easy and yummy recipe for salmon and it doesn't have a huge fishy taste. You just take 1 tablespoon of Old Bay Seasoning and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and mix it together in a small dish. Take salmon filets and rub a little bit of olive oil on them and sprinkle the Old Bay mixture on the fish and broil for 4-5 minutes until done. It's cheap, easy, quick, great source of protein, and best of all yummy! We are actually making this for dinner tonight!0

Try new ways of spicing it or new preparation methods. You'd be amazed how different you can make the same cut of meat taste.
Eggs are also cheap, fast, easy, versatile, and great for you. I keep both egg whites and whole eggs in my house all the time.0 -
You said no Soy, do you have any gluten problems? If not google how to make seitan. Very easy, cheap, and you can mimic chicken fairly easy with spices. I believe seitan in the grocery store has some soy in it and it's pricey. That's why I make it myself. If you don't feel like googling it, I have a recipe that I use message me if you would like it! Also, I agree with the other poster who said to try other types of white fish. Tilapia is one of those fish that most people who don't like fish, will eat.0

I buy pre-cooked rotisserie chicken from Costco, cut it up into serving pieces and freeze it for burritos with non fat refried beans and high fiber tortillas, a little avocado, grilled onions, taco sauce, and low fat sour cream. I add Sargento thin slice cheese to a tortilla and make chicken quesadillas with tobasco. Corn tortillas make great chicken tacos, add a bunch of salad greens with that. Lean beef makes great spaghetti sauce for anything, add salad and half a french roll for garlic bread. Make homemade pizza with lots of veggies on your half if your husband isn't a fan. Sweet potato fries are easy to make and add to a burger dinner, as are pop chips low sodium and calories. There are so many healthful options compared to restaurants or fast food. Just not eating out made a huge difference for me. I still eat my favorite junk food, just without the hidden calories and salt; I know what's in it!0

When it comes to gluten I try to avoid it. If I have to much of it, I tend to have bowl issues0 -
I buy Pop Chips in 100 cal bags (18 pack to a box) from Costco, or regular bags at the grocery. My sis was housesitting for me and guiltily said she got into the chips, as she knew how fattening chips were (she really watches her weight). I showed her the ingredients list and she was amazed. I sent her home with a large box full of 100 cal bags. 18 chips are 100 cals, 3.5g fat, 0 trans fat, 180mg sodium, 0 cholesterol, 1g fiber, 2g sugar, 16g carbs, gluten free. They come in different flavors like sour cream and onion, or BBQ. Great snack.0
