Any advice at how to really quit

  • Don't quit cold turkey. It can be harder that way, and you might end up going for the soda more often. Try cutting it out slowly. If you're drinking a certain amount of soda a day, start drinking one glass less, until you're down to none at all.

I quit cold turkey, was a Diet Mt dew drinker . I hated drinking water but started drinking more this summer w/ some mio or crystal light, Now thats all I drink usually around 6-8 glasses a day.

This is going to sound smart aleckly but not my intent. Don't drink it. :). That is really what it comes down to. You know your trigger, so what can you do when that trigger comes up? Is there another drink you like that you could use for those feel bad times?

I switched to unsweetened iced tea and water. I had a headache for two weeks and it was pretty awful, but it's been two years and I don't miss soda at all.

Also, you may want to look into learning some coping skills for when you feel bad. Have a backup plan and be prepared. You know that at some point you are going to feel sad, upset, angry, or bad. Replace soda with something healthy. I take walks, call a friend, write, clean, or take a bubble bath when I am having a hard time.
