Losing weight after having baby!

Hi, my son is now 9 months old, but of course I found myself still unable to get back to my pre-pregnancy shape (and weight)!! I have about 12 pounds still to lose, and I thought that it would just happen naturally over time, as I had always had a fast metabolism and had been in *fairly* good shape before my pregnancy. I was very very wrong... the months passed and I had "plateaued;" no more weight was coming off!
At any rate, about a month ago I decided it was high time to start counting my calories and increasing my fitness level to get to the goal I wanted. I am trying hard to count calories and stay below 1500 calories a day (usually between 1300-1450 in a day, and even that is hard!). I think I have only lost about 1 pound or so... Is that on track? I feel like I am trying so hard and not getting much in the way of weight loss... What else can I do? I thought perhaps I would be able to lose 1 pound per week, but I am lucky if I have lost 1 1/2 pounds in a month. I feel like I am doing something wrong.
Other than moving all day with my 9 month old son, I see a personal trainer (past 2 weeks now) each week, and try to go to the pool or gym at least one other time in the week. Any thoughts/suggestions anyone? I feel like this isn't working the way I thought...
Thanks,
Laura
