Hi!
i was just wondering wether many people suffer from Daily bloating as the day goes on?
When i wake up in the morning my stomach is nice and a lot flatter! im almost there! haha
As soon as i have my breakfast (usually porridge) it looks a bit bigger bloats out a small bit and then as the day goes on it seems to get a bit more bloated so by the end of the day i don't look as good.
I dont eat much bread, wheat pasta etc i have oats in the morning.
I do notice if i have some bread or pasta or some cereal it bloats and feels a bit heavy so i think it just may be sensitive to that kind of thing.
I just want to k now if many people get this!

The best way to really work out is by trial and elimination. Perhaps try to avoid the porridge for a few mornings and see if you feel any better without it in your system. I bloat with wheat gluten, personally, but I have an allergy; so I know why. Its also often found in porridge as they're processed in the same place. There are oats available that are safe though, if you work out it IS the problem. Another thing that can cause me to bloat is dairy, though only sometimes. If you're really worried the doctor can test for both. Also carbonated drinks, although I suppose thats a given. Sorry if I'm not much help.0

Some days its not that bad and some days its worse like i said if i have cereal bread pasta etc. but i dont feel ill?
i have thought about trying to go Gluten free and see if it makes a difference but it just means spending more money and finding different recipes and its seems too hard.0 -
Sounds like me too - I'm gluten sensitive.... Talk to your doctor to see if you can get the blood test for celiac's disease... don't change your diet until you get tested as if you've been avoiding gluten you can get a 'false negative'.
Or you can just start cutting out gluten and see if the bloating stops/decreases. I use a rice porridge put out by Lowan Wholefoods (i'm in Australia, you can get it in Coles and Woolworths here). It's 203cals a serve, and sticks with you! You can get some good gluten alternatives now, it's way better than it was 20 years ago
good luck!0 -
eylia yeah dairy can make my stomach feel funny so i avoid it as much as i can.
I have also thought about cutting out the porridge but it just fills me up so good for work. What would i replace it with ...fruit? Porridge doesnt make my stomach feel heavy or funny at all it just looks a bit bloated after.0 -
hmm janie_jane im in NZ so i will have a look for some different porridge...'by its stick with you' do you mean it fills you up and you dont get hungry?
Would you guys check this post out tomororow if i was too add some pics of what my stomach looks like in the morning and at the end of the day? and see what you think?
Can you please give me some good ways and alternatives for going gluten free? meal idea etc0 -
I have to second the rice porridge (also live in Aus). As for going gluten free I think it sounds more daunting than it is; fruits, vegetables, meat=All good and safe. Processed meats, not so much, although many 'regular' sausages are now made GF anyway. I tend to eat food that is often quite asian based, simple fast and easy to incorporate whatever meat and vegetables you have on hand. Corn and Rice are your easiest grains to source. I often chose rice over GF pasta if I can't afford to spend big, also rice vermicelli is cheap (almost instant to prepare) and an easy 'noodle' replacement. San Remo make a really nice corn/rice blend GF pasta too, it isn't much different in colour or texture to the regular sort-it does cost a little more though. Almost anything can easily be made GF, packet cake mixes are easy to find if you have a sweet tooth too. Premade sauces are usually not okay, but more and more brands are bringing out options.
EDIT: I'm more than happy to help you out a bit with ideas if you need it; I love cooking, aha, just message me =]0 -
thank you i have found some gluten free porridge from countdown so i will get that.
and i will look for gluten free pasta while im there- but i don't eat a lot of pasta anyway.
So am i right in thinking that meat such as mince, chicken, pork, all veges, fruit, salad are all good?
What about potatoes and rice? what do you do for them? and also some days for lunch i will have them lightbread/cruskit things are they gluten free?
and what about hummus?0 -
Is it bad bloating or just your standard flucuation?
When you wake up you probably haven't drunk or eaten anything in around 8 - 12 hours.... of course at 8pm you will be bigger and weigh more than at 8am
if it's bad look into it, but I know for myself throughout the day I expand about an inch (3cm) ish and weigh about 1.5kg more later in the day (3lbs)0 -
Okay. Potato is a vegetable, it's fine. Rice is GF naturally too; as is corn. For myself, I like Real Foods Corn thins as a bread replacement of sorts, they're tasty and easy-just in the regular section of the supermarket. Also, most rice crackers are fine, Sakata and such; the packets will say if they are and most are. The health food isle will have more options, but I'm trying to list things that won't cost more =]
Most humus is alright, but check the label just in case-you probably don't need to be too strict on it when it's just a trial. Gravox (i think they're an international brand) also has GF gravies in amongst their range, some are just 'low' in gluten and others are free from it. Pure corn flour (most are mixed, so make sure it's 'pure') is a great sauce thickener in place of plain flour, rice works too.0 -

I was going to say this earlier actually. Bloating is uncomfortable and wrong feeling, but I am always flatter when I wake up (empty) and as I eat through the day, well, I become a little bigger-if you're small(ish) to begin with or not overly toned in the midsection, I think it's normal for a bit of expansion.0 -
Yeah this is what i have been debating over. i don't know if it is normal fluctuation or bloating.
Most days my stomach just look 4-5cm bigger depending on what i eat and how much fluid i drink.
and especially if i have wheat ( bread, cereal, pasta etc)
I know i am defiantly bloated when i eat that stuff.
So i am going too try going gluten free just too see, the only things i really need to change are my pasta and bread when i have it and my porridge.

You know what I think it is? I noticed that in the past whenever I ate porridge in the morning I would feel heavy and slightly bloated. Then I would eat 2 fruits about 1-2 hours later and BANG! The biggest baloon ever :O soooo uncomfortable, feeling some abdominal pain and all that. Like a lot of air was trapped -_- very uncomfortable.
Every time. So I did some research and figured that since porridge takes more than 4 hours or something to digest and fruits digest alot quicker (and have alot of fruitsugar) that was probably the problem. Because the fruits would rotten before it was their "turn" to digest since they where standing in a "que" behind the porridge. Makes sense what I am trying to say? so now I never eat fruit on a full stomach, always only on an empty stomach and what a difference :-)0 -
Ok Thank you. yeah its not sore of uncomfortable just looks bigger and some days worse than others when i eat other stuff in the day.
Will see what it does today. and im gonna post photos tonight so you can see how much bloating i get and tell fro there.
Thanks0 -
I get discouraged with this as well. Yes, partly it could be my age. Yes, I did have 1 child. But I'm also an active person, and I teach 4 Zumba classes a week, and recently started working out back at home again. I get soooo discouraged. I track everything I eat. I'm staying within my 1200 cal limit. I've had my thyroid checked, and that's fine. Yet, I always look like I'm 4 months pregnant. Very discouraged at this point.0

Certain foods do it for me so I just avoid them.0
