Ganglion Cyst

Hello! My ortho found a small ganglion cyst located on the lateral underside of my knee. It is painful at times and causing me to have pain from my knee to my hip. The doctor originally thought I had IT band issues but after 2 bouts of physical therapy, I never got better. He did a knee MRI last week and the ganglion cyst was the only thing that came up. He gave me a shot of cortisone as a "last ditch effort" to help the pain. He told me to get a 2nd opinion. I have my 2nd opinion scheduled for tomorrow. I am beginning to think this cyst is pressing on a nerve and causing the pain. I haven't exercised as in cardio for over 3 weeks now. The pain comes and goes with everyday life such as cleaning, walking, working, grocery shopping and so on. It is very annoying and taking over my life. If anyone has had this, please tell me your story. Thanks!

I had a ganglion on my wrist which I had removed because it used to absolutely freak people out when they noticed it. It was day surgery and only a local anaesthetic, though whatever they gave me pretty much knocked me out.
Sorry, I know this doesn't really help you at all but I had to share as I've only ever come across one other person with a ganglion!0 -
My daughter had one on her wrist and the doctor smashed it with a book to break it! Not something I would have done or recommended. She had another one on her leg that they surgically removed just as a day surgery. No big deal.0

Did she have pain with the one in her leg?0 -
Both my daughter and I have had them. They can be painful, for sure! Both of ours went away on their own. Mine after a year, my girl's after a few years. Our docs have advised us that they frequently come back if you have them removed, and the scar tissue makes them more painful when they do return.
I don't regret waiting them out.0 -
My sister has had them in her wrist and knee. She had the one on her wrist removed I believe two times and it came back. I have heard about smashing them with a book. She just tolerates the one in her knee but it seems like it has been less painful over time. Sometimes she experiences swelling and pain but it doesn't seem to be as frequently as several years ago.0

My daughter had one removed from above her eye when she was 1-1/2 years old, they put her right out at the children's hospital. The plastic surgeon went through the crease in her eyelid, looks perfect. He said it's good to take them out.0

I went for a swim today and noticed a lot of pain in the area where the ganglion cyst is located. It felt heavy and achy.0
