As I made my Tuna salad tonight I realized I spoil my cat! he normally has dry food... but when we are having a really nice meal he gets a wet food pack, he shares a bit of our Christmas roast as well! if we cook chicken we leave some unseasoned to grill for him and tonight I'm having tuna so I opened him a can of tuna as well!
Anyone else feed your animals dependent on what you are eatting that day?

I have stopped feeding my dog and cat "human" food, I used to give them each a little bite but now I don't. But they do however, when my fiance and I have dinner the dog gets a packet of soft dog food and the cat gets a can of soft cat food as their "dinner", otherwise they have crunchy food in their dishes 24/7 if they are hungry. I do spoil them though, with toys and blankets and beds, they are my little babies!0

We would feed one of our dogs (german shep/lab/mix mutt - a rescue) all of our leftovers. He had Addison's Disease so we had to give him anything he would eat and he already wasn't going to live as long because of it so it didn't matter if he got people food. We finally had to put him down two weeks ago.0

I don't. My cats need certain nutrients that they can't get from people food unless it is prepared very specifically. If you are giving cats people food as a treat, that's one thing, but don't make it their whole diet.
Also, certain things are toxic to cats, like garlic and onion, so be careful there. Don't ever give a cat cooked bones either (or a dog, for that matter). Raw bones are fine, but never cooked.

Yup. The kitty kitty gets turkey with gravy on Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also gets tuna in her stocking on Christmas (yes, she has her own stocking), and she gets special love on her birthday as well.0

Thanks for the advice! hehe I'm a trained vet tech so I the stuff I can' give :P the meat we give him is always unseasoned so don't worry!0 -

I celebrate their birthdays as well, they get something special on their birthday0 -
I do not because in the past when I have given my animals "people food" it has caused them to learn to beg for food when I am eating. I have found that if I stick to dog or cat food only they do not show much interest in what I am eating and do not beg.0

I used to feed my old cat a little bit of nacho cheese when I had it and milk when I had cereal. He'd knock the plate out of your hand, otherwise. Literally.
My current cat recently started developing an interest in table food, but I rarely give him anyway. He really enjoys canned tuna and goldfish crackers. But normally he doesn't get anything but cat food.0 -
I don't eat meat so I don't let my cat eat my food - it isn't suitable for cats. However sometimes I get some meat especially for her at the market and let her eat it raw (after 24 hours in the freezer to kill any possible parasites).0

My cat really only likes dry food. She'll eat a tiny bit of canned once in awhile. She is very strange though, the only place she drinks water is from the goldfish bowl and she licks ranch dressing off a plate if she has the chance.0

Mine is on prescription diet for his bladder so his diet is mainly that. But he cons the kids into sharing. He will even eat their veggies0

Freezing food doesn't kill parasites. It just slows them down so they don't multiply as quickly.
Either feed it to them, straight from the store, or don't feed it to them at all (they cannot digest cooked meat).0 -

Awe! Thats so sad Ariel!0 -
My puppies get some eggs and bacon on the weekend when I make brunch for the family ~ and they get a few strips of steak on their birthdays. Other than that, I try to limit their "human food treats", especially since Frankie (the white one) is a bit porky. Lol0

my cat likes the water from the tuna and canned chicken and I made Salmon and I didnt like it so I gave it to him he is so spoiled0

I find it funny that people call natural meats, veggies, and fruits "human food". What do you think they eat in the wild...kibble?
Steer clear from processed crap (waffles, donuts, french fries, etc), but any natural foods are fine, as long as there is balance.0 -
We used to have a Labrador who loved ripe bananas, you gave him one and he's peel it, eat the flesh and give you back the skin.0

Wow... that's not the way I thought that post was going to go!
I have dogs... I try not to feed them people food, because it makes them total beggars!0 -

You will most definitely survive the apocalypse. Yay!
Lucky for me, my cat couldn't care less about human food. My dogs, however, are always underfoot when I'm cooking. I never give them anything!0 -

My dog eats any veggies used during cooking except for onions, he loves cauliflower and tomatos. After we eat he licks the plates. When I cook any sort of meat, I take the bones boil them with a bunch of carrots and celery. Then I completely pick the bones clean of any meat and that goes into little 3-serving containers for my pup and then goes in the freezer. He gets one, through out the week, as long as we have enough. He loves it, and it saves on dog food. I have a little dog, so he doesn't eat much anyway, but I can make a small bag of dog food last about a month by doing this. Oh and every saturday or sunday morning when I cook eggs for breakfast he gets an over easy mixed with his doggy food.0 -
If my cat were living and I could start over I would feed her a diet specifically for cats no at the store foods bc that is what killed her just like us humans....bad foods destroy the body! The cat foods over the counter are not made for their guts.
I would get a protein rich and low in carbs diet food. so I would go to those pet ma and pa owned stores that make their foods. My old vet also had some foods they recommended too you could only buy from them.0 -
Our cat is picky! The only people food she'll eat is tuna. She likes milk some times when it's colder outside. She'll go to the refrigerator and meow over and over until you pour her a dish! Spoiled cat!! She will turn her nose up if you try to give her anything other than Purina Cat Chow.0

Dear BF hates the smell of canned tuna so when hes gone for the evening me and the cat help ourselves to a treat of tuna fish. Ill also give him raw bites of steak or fish if I'm preparing those for dinner, but thats pretty rare too. Hes pretty spoiled though. His intestines are so pampered that if they have dry food and/or grains they throw a huge fit all over the house. Not pretty.0

So sorry to hear that! Last May I finally had to put my 15-year-old cat down after she went into renal failure. I am still recovering from that. I had her since she was a kitten. Animals are like family members.0 -

Never!
And it pissed me off when others thought it was ok to give my dog people food. He was on a prescription diet and my mom's bf thought it was funny to sneak him people food.0 -
Since our young cat Xander experienced a blockage, we stopped buying dry food - now it's canned food only. It's getting very expensive to feed two always-hungry cats, so we'll give them ground-up leftover meat sometimes. Also both of them love to lick egg remnants from my plate after I'm done.0
