So I have a question.... or rather looking for opinions... I have some hand weights (not real heavy 2.5-5lbs) and I have been using them while I watch tv. (work my biceps and triceps) do you think this will do anything for me. I'm just starting out and thought that if I can do this while watch a program maybe burn an extra few calories at the same time.

No, probably not doing much, especially with such tiny weights.0

really even for someone who is morbidly obese bmi above 600

I say do it. If you are really out of shape, every little bit counts. Sometimes I stand in front of the tv and do squats, Or jog on the spot slowly. I use the commercials for timing, I try to last until the ads start again, ect.0

Yes, you'll burn slightly more calories than you would sitting still and watching T.V.
But you won't be building or even maintaining muscles.0 -
You would probably burn more calories doing something like jumping jacks while you watch tv. Lifting an extra 2.5 lbs with your arms isn't going to do much. You're better off using your own body for exercise. Practice some pushups, maybe.
If you are going to lift weights, lift heavy ones and save it for actual exercise time.

LIFT HEAVY.0

It will burn a few calories as each contraction requires some energy, but if you want to get stronger or have noticeable results you need to do bigger, more powerful movements with heavier weights. Try things like pushups, lunges, squats, burpees, mountain climbers, planks, etc... all can be done while watching TV and will help you get results.0

I think it's great that you doing this! Maybe the small weights aren't doing alot but they are doing something, I see you got alot to lose so it's best to start slow and small with something realistically manageable every day for you, maybe change it up a gear once a week. Stand and lift, or get heavier ones, or get a small step so your whole body's moving....keep it up! Xx0

It's definitely better than nothing, but I would encourage you not to cheat yourself out of doing the level of exercise you are are truly capable of....whatever that level is at the moment.
Last spring, I weighed over 300 and thought I could do 30 Day Shred...I didn't even make it through the warm-up. Less than a dozen jumping jacks in, I was in such pain and my head was hurting so much I truly wondered if I was having a stroke or something.
I was determined to do this though, so I got out the wii fit and found that I could (barely) do 10 minutes of free step at it's slowest pace. Step on the board, step off the board, and repeat...super easy, but a challenge then.
I did that EVERY DAY and as I could do more, I did. Soon I moved on to workout videos and early this year I got a treadmill and I can run 7 miles on there without stopping.
People laughed about my wii fit workouts, but look where they got me!
Find what you are capable of and be faithful to that. Push yourself to do more when you can. If not, you are only cheating yourself.

I do go to the gym almost every day. When I am there I do about 20mins on recumbent elliptical (as I hurt to much to do things standing) and do about 40-45mins of circuit training on the different machines that they have there.
I just thought I would try and add this to my day too. At home I don't have many things without standing, and standing for to long hurts0 -
I do have resistance bands too that I could use while seated, do you think those would work better?0
-
I have no ideas on weights vs resistance bands other than maybe do a bit of each, but good for you for going to the gym and doing what you can!0

Thanks, I am actually pretty happy about it, I started out only doing about 2 miles on the recumbent and now I am almost up to 3 miles0 -
I would try to bump it up to 5 pounds, but something it better than nothing. I personally try to march in place during commercial breaks.0

GOOD FOR YOU! Everyone has to start somewhere - inertia is a terrible thing to overcome, so I'll say it again. GOOD FOR YOU!
When i started, I could do 2 minutes on the elliptical...lowest level, no resistance, no incline. I would have cried in disappointment if i could have worked up the energy needed. But I made sure I did those 2 minutes every day....and then 2 minutes twice a day until I was humming along at a fairly good clip. It gets easier. It gets better.
Do what YOU can and reassess what you can do every week or two. Once you're comfortable doing one thing, change it up and add on. You'll truly be amazed at how quickly you progress0
