Always hated exercise :( - Help me like it...

Always hated exercise, hate sweating and mainly that I get out of breath, hot and hyperventilate quickly...
I am really bad at it too.... Totally uncoordinated, when I have tried to do aerobics I am always 2-3 moves behind...
I have bad knees (cartilage issue in both) so I cannot do high impact exercise. Don't have a lot of $$ so gym or private trainer is out of the question.
I know I have to do exercise to help loose weight but also to just be healthier.
Anyone else out there that hate exercise? Which one do you do?

You don't have to do exercise to lose weight. Your diet is far more important than exercise but if you get out of breath then you probably need to do exercise very badly. There are tons of DVD's that you can do at home. An easy type to do are the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds. She has a lot of different versions although they're all much the same. If you can walk in place you can do them.0

Swimming is great exercise. Some people like to dance. You just have to find something fun to do. Another option is scrubbing your house spottless. That definately burns some calories. (House wives back in the day were fit from all the work they did yet no "exercise')0

I used to suck at regular jogging. I would want to jog once a day, 5 days a week. Anyhoo, i have minor bilateral fractures on my tibula (front of leg) so doing high impact all the time makes my legs hurt. My wife introduced me to the world of 'fast walking'.. which i always thought was mucho dorky... but i LOVE it.
Admittedly, i still feel like a complete dork but it's wonderful. it doesn't kill me, i'm still burning calories, i can listen to a book or whatever while im doing it, it's not hard, and i just have to walk fast. Or as MFP says "very brisk pace".
Try it out once a day or every other day. It's really not bad at all. Forget tryign to jog and lift weights and whatever. Do this for a few weeks and get into it and then introduce something new. Once you get into the habit, it'll be easier to pick up new things. I've been on a perpetual diet for about 8 years now, but once i got on MFP... i'm CONSTANTLY motivated to work out and this has helped me out a ton as well.
"Slow and steady wins the race" is SUPER applicable to people trying to bust some fat!
I also jump rope two - three times a day for 200 jumps. Since i sit on a computer, it helps me avoid the 'sedentary lifestyle' type vibe.
Best of luck and i hope you get there!0 -
You sounds exactly like I did a few months ago! My main exercise is walking...love it! I even go out in the rain because I can't stand to not go walking outside almost every day. I just started out small at 2km (30 minutes) per walk and now I've gone up to 7.5km (1h45m).0

I agree with the Leslie Sansone videos. No coordination needed for the walking in her videos. Get decent shoes to help protect your knees/feet. I hate sweating, so I open the window in the winter/cold days and blast the AC in the summer when I'm on the treadmill. I also have a fan blowing on me. It helps, it really does.
As for LIKING exercise, well that's another story. Are you losing weight for just a certain number on the scale or do you have fitness goals. I started with a number on the scale, while telling myself what I wanted was health and fitness. Somewhere along the line it actually did become about health and fitness and a lifestyle.
To be perfectly honest, I still don't like exercise. My body, on the other hand, does and feels better when I'm consistent with it. It also has become exciting to see my stamina increase as my butt has shrunk.
Good luck on your journey.0 -
There is far more to exercise than just a gym class.
Of all the people that like to be active, gym classes are probably the minority way to do it.
What *do* you like to do already? What did you used to do when you were 10 years old?
Swimming is great - or any form of exercise at the pool - as it is easy on your joints.0
