I Can't Stop Munching

Lately I've had this appetite that is like...never ending. I eat, and then I want something else. So I eat, and then I want something else. And it repeats itself throughout the day. I'm normally not like this and I just want it to stop! Has anyone else experienced this sporadically? If so, what did you do to stop these forever cravings??

this is good advice...if you drink water it will trick your stomach into thinking it is full and you won't keep getting that im hungry feeling.. i would also recommend eating foods high in proteins they tend to be more satiating...

what does your current eating schedule look like?

My eating schedule is pretty good. I was doing just fine eating 1400-1600 cals a day, and doing so throughout the day. My weight was fine and I felt great, blah blah blah. It's just that all of the sudden my body decided it wanted me to scarf food all day. Not cool!

And the water thing is good. I do that, and I'm a big water drinker. I'm just frustrated and needed to vent to people who would understand! :(

Try sucking on something like sugar free candy or atomic fire balls. This helps me when I get the munchies!

Are you eating a lot of wheat products? In my thread, "Wheat Bellies..." it talks about the addictive nature of modern wheat and its affect on appetite.

I don't eat any wheat, ever. I have a severe yeast allergy, so I can't have wheat, corn, sugar, honey, molasses, yeast products, etc. It cuts out A LOT of food, which is kind of a blessing because it keeps me from munching on terrible things. :)

Hmmm. May be a deficiency of some sort. Are you eating enough veggies and fruit? Are you getting enough fat and protein?

I'm definitely upping my veggie intake as of tonight because I've noticed that I've been less than diligent in keeping up with that. With fruit, it's difficult. Because of my allergies, I can't have much fruit, only berries and apples. Tomorrow I'm going to start my day with a strawberry smoothie complete with coconut oil (the best fat for someone with my allergies), spirulina, and almond milk, etc.

I've been stressed about some family things lately, I think that may be why I'm grazing all day. I'm hoping that me realizing the extent of my munching will help me get out of this funk!

5+ servings of vegetables a day will help a lot, and making sure you get your protein also should improve things for you.

I recently started trying to make sure I get the above, it improved my energy and I wasn't hungry in between meals. yesterday I didn't have such a good balance (i ate bad because I stacked of my bike) and I can feel it today. about to eat a superfood salad :)

How much exercise are you doing and are you eating your exercise calories back? Because to me it sounds like your body isn't getting enough fuel. On the days that I do extra exercise, I eat extra because I'm so hungry. Your body needs fuel! I don't know if you have weight to lose or you are at your ideal weight, but if you don't need to lose much or are at your ideal weight, your body can't burn fat for fuel so will start to burn muscle if you don't feed it. Try snacking on chopped veges with dips (if your allergies allow), as they tend to fill you up and are relatively low in calories. This is all speculative though because I don't know your stats.

what does your work out schedule look out? You could try bumping your cal intake up by 100

I get that horrible feeling when my cycle is close. After my cycle I have to force my self to eat.
  • Upping the vegetables is a good idea. I don't know what your weakness is, but if it's potato chips you could replace them with crunchy veggies like carrots, cucumbers, and celery. If you like cheese puffs, try baked cauliflower with cheese drizzled on top. There are always low-calorie substitutes.

The onset of cold weather does that to me. Guess the old mammal instincts to "eat because the lean winter time is coming" still exists despite the modern conveniences we have. Mankind's progress is way too fast for our animal instincts to keep up.

Make as many healthy substitutions as it takes to ride the hungries out. Veggies, baked chips, etc.

I get this way often and in my case, it's usually caused by boredom. If I've had enough to eat and not totally hungry, but I just have that "itch" to keep munching, I try to make tea or a low calorie broth to sip on, just to keep my tastebuds occupied, this is how I got into my afternoon tea habit work. :) If I can, I stop doing whatever is boring me and try to do something more fun that keeps my hands busy like drawing or a craft project or something (obviously not always possible like when I'm supposed to be working!).
