That binge feeling...

Has anyone ever felt that they have totally overcome that overwhelming urge to give in to the craving and severe need for more food, and just consume everything in sight?
I feel like my life is either me being strong enough to resist it, and hence skinny, confident and happy, or being too exhausted to fight it, and constantly giving in, day after day, and gaining the weight back.
I am currently feeling strong, but am experiencing that severe urge to go downstairs and inhale everything in sight.
Also, does anyone find that their binges are caused by physical cravings and hunger, rather than emotional oneS? I have PCOS, so maybe this is adding to the struggle...

yah. I know that feeling. I loved sour candy, potato chips, cookies... anything bad to a degree most people cant understand. so I know what you are talking about.
sometimes now I will look at something that I get surprised by something in an open cabinet french patisserie, and I just want to grab it and put it in my face. like a physical feeling thats like GET IN MY FACE.
(looks for looney tune character starving on a desert island looking at his friend that turned into a chicken, fails)
but now I don't find it very hard at all. partly its because I see food as a fuel source now and theres a lot better fuels that taste good too. especially since I started getting my 5+ veges, fibre, protein and good fats, i feel a lot more energised and less hungry and even less into unhealthy foods
but yah. in the past I didnt need to be overcome. i just went to the store and bought it. like, all the time. i lived off of cookies, chips, sour candy and chocolate. kinda sucked.0 -
Yes I have been there a number of times. I haven't given in hardly at all recently because I try to compensate for that feeling if nothing else works, by measuring out an amount of whatever I'm craving and just having that and a ton of water. That has helped me, if trying to busy myself while having that feeling does not work. Most of the time I have found that my need to binge comes from an emotion that I am having, and I usually get that urge when I am under stress.0

yes, i have that feeling, even when i've eaten good foods and i'm not particularly hungry. i had a binge the other day actually, and even though it was all pretty healthy food (soup, light cheese, diet pudding cup, etc) i felt really guilty (still do) and gross, and the calories really added up. it was almost a thousand i think.
i dont' know what to tell you to help curb them, sorry!0 -
When I feel like that, I remind myself how much my stomach will ache if I do it. Since I've been on MFP and restricting my calories to 1800, it is difficult for me to binge. Maybe my stomach has shrunk? I don't know, but I can't binge like I used to. In fact, I think I might even be safe going to a buffet at some point.0

I really think with PCOS a lot of it has to do with insulin and blood sugar. I have PCOS too. With PCOS, insulin levels are high. This sometimes causes a drop in blood sugar- making you feel ravenously hungry. Sometimes I will even get shaky and nauseated. Go for something healthy with a good amount of protein and fat, mixed in with some slow releasing carbs. Think peanut butter sandwich, cheese and crackers, etc. It also happens less if I get a good breakfast with some protein as well.
My cravings are usually carb/sugar cravings, but if I fight that urge and eat a good mix, I find I will feel better
I do think it is biological hunger/cravings rather than emotional for me too. I really think it has to do with insulin and blood sugar. I have been taken off of my medications, but when I was taking Metformin, an insulin sensitizer, it didn't happen much at all.

I suffer from binge eating, especially at night. I found that if I keep healthy foods, such as worked up fresh veggies in the fridge, I will choose them instead of unhealthy foods. Also, I had to get the unhealthy foods out of my house or out of reach. My husband is underweight and has pastries and cookies in the house, but he keeps them in the bedroom where he sleeps so they are not in sight or mind. I sleep in a recliner due to physical problems. I found my psych drugs and being insulin resistant has really contributed to my cravings. You can overcome this and having friends to rant and rave to really helps. They can encourage and motivate you along your journey. Fee free to add me. My name is Kimberlee, 49.0

I am defintly a binge eater! I can usually hold myself together through the week, but once the weekend hits I feel as if food is free game and it has no calories! I don't ever even think about what I chose to eat, if I want it I have it! It is terrible. I did great last week losing weight and gained almost all of itback this weekend! UGH! It is frustrating.0
