Eating to get stronger?

Personally, I have went up at least 40 - 50 lbs in the past month in my major lifts, but I was wondering, I know you have to eat bigger to get bigger, but what about getting stronger? I don't necessarily want to be a big guy, just super strong. Do calories in effect power coming out? As far as energy for lifting I do fine on a 1600-2000 calorie day energy wise (due to my busy schedule I find it hard to eat more), but as far as gaining strength I don't want eating to be the main reason for me to be stronger in the long run. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience in the eating vs gaining strength category..
