9 or 10 day marathon training cycle

I was lucky enough to get into the ballot for London Marathon 2013.

This will be my second marathon - my first (this year) was not a brilliant time largely due to ITB /knee pain. This time I want to try & avoid any issues & so want to get the nutrition & training right. I am going to allow myself more time do I can increase the distance by a mile a week.

My query is that a friend mentioned I could try a 9 or 10 day training cycle instead of 7 to avoid overdoing it, but to be honest I am struggling to get my head around the concept!!! I have googled it but not come up with much. Just wondered if anyone had experience of training in this manner?

I work full time & do a spin class Tuesdays & kettle bells/ViPR/body pump Thursdays & my long run would have to be on a weekend. I would like to factor in a recovery run, interval session & basic strength session as well.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or tips?

Many thx :flowerforyou:
