Working out in an Apartment?

I just moved into an apartment (3rd Floor). I have never lived in an apartment and am nervous about working out (Insanity). Will my neighbors think they live under an elephant? Do you work out in your apartment? Thoughts? Opinions?

Done this several times in various floor levels. Best thing to do is warn your downstairs neighbors about your workout routine and how long it will last. Trust me, you don't want a disgruntled knock on your door to interrupt your workout and mood.0

i tolerate my upstairs neighbors jumping around on friday/saturday nights knowing i do my own jumping around at 7:30am with JM
edit : also i try my best to have soft feet when i land, to not clunk down like an elephant but to utilize my muscles to land more gracefully and quietly. doesn't always work, but i try!0 -
Perhaps go down and introduce yourself. Explain that you like to workout, apologize in advance for any noise and ask if them to please let you know if you are disturbing them in any way.0

I just moved to the third floor. This is actually one of the reasons my working out has stalled. I am too nice to be jumping around and ruining someone's sleep or evening.....Guess I need to find quieter things to do. Treat others the way you would want to be treated i guess?0

I used to do workout programs in apartments all the time! Try to step lightly and ensure you are doing it on a carpeted floor. If you don't have carpet or an area rug to put down try putting some yoga mats on the ground. I have found that really helps to lower the amount of noise.0

You could always go downstairs, introduce yourself and talk about it with them. You're not asking permission, you're just opening it up for discussion. Something like "I'm planning on doing my at home workouts around x time or x time. Please let me know if the noise bothers you at all".
IMHO, better to be up front than to piss someone off and risk a bunch of drama. Maybe even write up a nice note in case they're not home when you go down to have a chat.0 -
I currently do work out in my apartment since it is very cold, rainy & snowy outside. On days that is is warm and nice out, I go for a walk out side.
I do walk it out and zumba on the Wii.
I currently have no one living below me.
I just make sure not to exercise real early in the morning, and try to get my work out over with before people come home from work.
I have had no complaints from anyone.0 -
I live in a 2nd floor apartment and I use puzzle mats >http://www.championmats.com/749201f0.jpg ... they work for me and my neighbors haven't complained since and I do insanity which is a lot of jumping around..you can give those a try they are pretty cheap.0

I bribe my downstairs neighbors with baked goods and beer. They love me and wouldn't dare complain about the booming noises on the ceiling.0

how well built is the apartment? I lived in one that my upstairs neighbors would be having a all out 50 people with kegs and the music blasting and I would only sound as a distance muffled noise. But I also lived in an apartment were I could hear the guy above me belt buckle hit the ground and the squeaking of his bed for the 2 minutes that follow and then the sigh of his girlfriend after that.
So it pretty much depends on how much your working out is being heard by them, either way I would try to stick to a schedule so that way they know the times you workout and for most courteous people if it's not during odd hours they will understand since it comes with the territory of living in an apartment. If you want to be proactive and say something you can, but be careful with that because if they say something like no you are too loud or you can't, then you will look like you are being a pain in the butt on purpose to them.0
